8 Simple Ways To Lose Fat

Writen by Shawn LeBrun

1. Set a goal for yourself and get real about achieving it.

Until you set a goal of how much body fat you want to lose, you are just dreaming. It needs to be specific and written down. If losing body fat is what you want to do, you must be willing to achieve it at all costs.

If you do not want to lose body fat enough, you will continue to give yourself reasons not to work out. Get real and tell yourself that you are going to do this, no matter what. Before any other step, this is the most important one.

If you are not real and serious about losing fat, all the other steps will not help you.

YOU MUST SET A GOAL FOR YOURSELF. You need a reason to keep going, to do cardio first thing in the morning, to skip that extra slice of pizza. You need a reason or you will not follow through.

So step 1 is to stop dreaming and start doing. Tell yourself you are going to achieve your goal no matter what. Write down what you want to achieve and then go after it!

2. Drink your life away! (well, not really)

If you have ever doubted the importance of water, try going a few days without it. You can live weeks without food, but only days without water. It is used in EVERY single physiological process your body undergoes.

It’s importance cannot be stated enough, especially when it comes to fat-loss and fitness training. Shoot for at least a gallon a day, preferably more. The inconvenience of constantly using the bathroom is a minor drawback compared to the benefits you will receive.

Keep a bottle wherever you spend most of your day, at your desk at work, in your car, hell, wear a water bottle around your neck, but just get enough water.

3. Eat 5-6 (or more) small meals a day consisting of high protein, moderate carbs, and low-fat.

This is important in keeping your metabolism efficiently burning calories. Constantly grazing on meals every 3 hours will allow your body to burn off what it has consumed quicker and more efficiently.

Eating one or two larger meals will actually cause your body’s metabolism to slow down. Skipping meals altogether will actually cause your body to store fat as a defense mechanism.

Your body is not sure when its going to get its next meal so it tends to store more in case of perceived famine. Make each meal consist of higher protein (builds muscle), moderate carbohydrates (fuel for the body) and low fat (energy and protection).

Use the 50-40-10 rule as an approximate guideline. 50% of your calories coming from protein, 40% carbs, and 10% fats.

4. Do INTENSE cardiovascular workouts 3-4 times a week.

This is where the majority of the calorie burning takes place.

Not necessarily from the cardio you just did, but from the fact that doing cardio increases your metabolic rate so that the rest of the day you will burn off more calories as well.

Treat your cardio days like you do your workouts. That means, put all of your energy and intensity into your cardio. Do 20-30 minutes of cardio 3-4 days a week. During a session of cardio, warm-up for 5 minutes, then do 20 minutes at a high intensity pace.

Then cool down for the last 5 minutes. Go at a fast enough pace where you are sweating, panting, huffing, puffing, turning red. Get your body out of homeostasis (everythings normal and in balance).

Doing cardio for the sakes of doing it will not burn fat. Going for a leisurely walk will not sufficiently burn fat, unless you walk ten miles. Riding a stationary bike while relaxingly reading the paper will not burn much fat.

Hey, it’s only 30 minutes. Bust your butt for this time and the return on your investment will be great. Choose cardio machines that get more of your body moving. The more you move, the more you burn.

Stairmaster and running on the Treadmill are good examples. The recumbent bike is good also, because you can focus on high intensity without worrying about falling off. The more your whole body moves, the more energy you expend.

5. Do INTENSE Weight training at least 3-4 times a week.

Do not mistake weight training w/ trying to burn fat. Weight training will not burn a sufficient amount of body fat. What weight training will do is help you burn fat in the future. When you add muscle to your frame, your body has to expend more energy (burn more calories) to maintain that muscle tissue.

So when you are at rest, even sleeping, the more lean muscle mass you have, the more calories you will expend. Weight training will not only strengthen existing muscle, but will add additional lean muscle tissue to handle any future demands placed on the muscle.

The more lean muscle tissue you have, the more calories you will expend at rest. Not bad, huh?

6. Figure out your daily energy expenditure and reduce it.

Most people do not like to calorie count, me included. But in order to properly lose body fat, you need to determine your daily energy expenditure or caloric maintenance level. You then need to reduce your energy consumption to be below your energy output.

It’s difficult to place a number on how much below your consumption you should go, because everyone is different. A good place to start would be 150-200 calories below your maintenance levels.

Then continue to observe the effects in the mirror to determine if this number needs to be changed. If you continue to see no results, try reducing your energy consumption to 300 calories below your energy output.

7. Instead of a 30 minute cardio session, do 2, 15 minute sessions.

This is definitely a tough thing to do because of busy schedules, but if it is possible, do a 15 minute cardio session first thing in the morning and another session later in the afternoon or early evening.

Research has shown that compared with subjects that did a 30 minute cardio session, those that did 2, 15 minute sessions burned twice as many calories. Make each 15 minute session still very intense, which is easier to do if you are going 15 minutes.

Warm-up for 2-3 minutes and then go all out for 13-15 minutes, then cool down for 2-3 minutes.

Once again, if you can fit 2, 15 minute cardio sessions into your day (avoid doing it on weight-training days), you will burn twice the amount of calories than doing a 30 minutes session.

8. Continue to up your weight (overload) when doing resistance training.

Remember that building lean muscle will assist you in the fat-burning process later on. The more muscle you have, the more energy your body expends to maintain that muscle, even at rest.

In order to make constant and significant gains, remember to train intensely and for short durations. I like to call them “bursts of exercise!” Try and work no more than 2 muscle groups a workout, 3 workouts a week.

Or you can do 1 muscle group each workout, training 5-6 days a week in shorter bursts.

Keep reps lower than higher. This will cause you to maintain high enough resistance to add overload to the muscle, causing more muscle growth. Do only 2-3 heavy sets per exercise and keep workouts no longer than 45 minutes.

Keep your workouts intense and to the point. Do it and get out of the gym. DO NOT DO YOUR CARDIO BEFORE WEIGHT TRAINING! It’s hard to focus intensely on both weight training and cardio in the same session. Do not rob one to pay the other.

These are 8 simple (well, not so simple if you do them well!) ways you can maximize fat burning while increasing the likelihood of not losing much muscle.

Cardio and proper nutrition are two of the most vital areas to focus on when attempting to shed fat and gain muscle.

Don’t Feel the Burn

Writen by Catherine Jones

My sister-in-law reaches into her purse for a big bottle of colourful heartburn tablets. They look like candy and that’s how she pops them. She’s been taking these pills regularly for years. When I ask why she doesn’t see someone about it, she says, “It’s heartburn-nothing serious.”

For some people, heartburn is nothing serious and popping those tablets provides all the relief they need. If you’re taking them occasionally, there’s nothing wrong with that. However, according to naturopathic physician Megan Mackenzie, “If you’ve reached a pack-a-day habit, you’ve got a problem that requires medical attention.”

Heard about GERD?

Chronic heartburn is the most common symptom of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), known to some as acid reflux. GERD is a chronic and painful condition that can leave you vulnerable to more serious dangers, including ulcerations of the esophagus and possibly esophageal cancer.

At the intersection of the esophagus and the stomach is the lower esophageal sphincter, a doorway of muscle. The sphincter, when working correctly, keeps the stomach contents (including the acid) in the stomach where it belongs. When stomach acid sneaks past the sphincter and touches the esophagus, the result is a burning sensation-heartburn.

The lower esophageal sphincter may open for many reasons. A full stomach, lying down, bending over, and pregnancy can all place pressure on the stomach and cause the sphincter to relax its hold. Certain food may relax the sphincter, such as chocolate and mints. Even coffee, alcohol, and nicotine affect the sphincter’s performance.

Getting Help

When heart and lung conditions have been ruled out, and you have been diagnosed with GERD, see a health care professional who will assess your condition holistically. GERD can be as individual as the sufferer and can be caused by many things. It may be the result of a food allergy or too much or too little stomach acid.

Because there are many different possible causes of GERD, no one remedy will effectively treat everyone. For example, if excessive acid in the stomach is the culprit, you might find relief from deglycyrrhizinated licorice tablets that coat the esophagus or from supplements containing concentrated marsh mallow or slippery elm. If your system produces too little acid, you may need digestive aids with pepsin, protease, and amylase. But Dr. Mackenzie cautions people to have their GERD causes assessed first. If you take digestive aids when your body is already producing excessive acids, it’s going to make it much worse.

Dietary Changes

According to Dr. Mackenzie, “GERD is easy to treat once you figure out what the problem is.” The first step she recommends is changing what you eat. This will benefit you no matter what the cause. The change does not need to be permanent; adapt your diet for a short period of time, long enough to heal your stomach.

Keep track of what you eat. Maintaining a food diary will help you and your health care professional identify the relationship between certain foods and heartburn, and help determine the cause.

Next, Dr. Mackenzie recommends turning eating into a stress-free event. Most of us are active throughout the day and we don’t take time to slow down when we eat. “The digestive tract doesn’t work when under stress,” she says. “You have to sit down and relax when eating to digest properly.”

My sister-in-law might not be ready to kick the tablet habit just yet. But over a relaxed lunch of slightly different cuisine, I might be able to convince her to at least alter her diet.

Should you be checked for GERD?

Common symptoms include:

  • frequent heartburn-twice a week or more
  • burning in the chest or beneath the chest bone or sternum
  • sour taste in the mouth
  • coughing
  • wheezing
  • difficulty swallowing
  • chest pain

Note: Always seek immediate medical attention for chest pain.

Create Your Home Gym with Minimum of Equipment

Writen by Isabel Curini

Training at home could prove as a good solution for the ones interested. The effectiveness of this type of training could compare to the one of working out in the gym, as long as some factors are considered.

The first, and at the same time the most important of these, is owning the necessary equipment. If, besides this, you also have a partner who trains with you, the exercises can be as effective as the ones performed in the gym. Of course, we are talking now about the ideal situation of affording a gym in your own house.

Even with these conditions fulfilled, some practitioners, especially the more extrovert ones, might lack the stimulating atmosphere, the sharing of experience, the communication that they can find in the gym.

In most of the cases, what you can do at home is improvise a room or just a corner of a room, for fitness. Besides, most of the times you have to train by yourself. As these are the most frequent situations, we’ll deal with them now. Anyway, it is preferable to have constant training at home, rather than interrupt it a lot because the gym is too busy, too far, too expensive, etc.

The minimum of equipment necessary for training at home includes: an adjustable bench, a set of two dumbbells, with increasing weights, a barbell, with free weights and a fix bar for pull ups. This equipment will enable both executing basic exercises (squats, bench presses, pull-ups, sit-ups, etc.) and diversity of exercises, necessary for avoiding routine.

The main disadvantage of not having a partner to train with is reflected in the amount of loading in some exercises, which cannot reach its maximum. There are many exercises which can be loaded to maximum without any risk, even if there is no partner to assist you (pull-ups, dips, shoulder presses, barbell curs, dumbbell curls, etc.).

An advantage which comes from training at home is that you can choose the training time without any restraint. Moreover, the speed of exercising can be increased a lot if the practitioner chooses to execute supersets, tri sets or giant sets. You can also save time, as you are not distracted by casual conversation, by waiting for the machines to be available, by having to change the weights for every personal series of exercises, etc.

In the extreme case when we can only afford as equipment a mattress, chairs and a towel, we can focus on exercises using the weight of the body (push-ups, reverse push-ups, between chairs push-ups, squats, sit-ups, crunches, hyperextensions, lunges, plyometrics, plunks, etc.).

All the exercises involving the body weight are considered as really demanding, because they mobilize more stabilizing muscles that ensure coordination and balance. The body-weight exercises are often introduced in the programs at the gym due to their proven effectiveness. They are also used in training and testing people in special troops, as these need a lot of force and discipline in their training.

Bee Propolis: Synergisitc Health Care for the 21st Centruy

Writen by James Fearnley

For well over a century modern science has progressed at a startling rate. With this increase in knowledge has come medicinal and healthcare benefits that have seen ages peak and diseases eradicated. These medical advances were based around the paradigm of the “magic bullet”, isolating the active ingredient and using it to alter the chemistry of a single molecule/protein to elicit a change of state in the patient. Success however has turned to obsession as cracks appear in the armoury of disease fighting drugs at our disposal. MRSA is rifling through our hospitals as antibiotics become ineffective and severe side effects of modern drugs are becoming common place now years after their introduction. A direct consequence of a one dimensional strategy, it is maybe the time to acknowledge the synergistic health benefits of natural medicine.

Propolis is a unique natural medicine because of its breadth of action. It has antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer and immunomodulatory effects, it could help treat asthma, allergies, arthritis and joint disorders, eczema and dermatitis, ME, viral infections including HIV and even cancer. This medicine could help treat an illness or keep you fit and healthy.

Propolis: Defender of the City

Propolis is a mainly resinous substance that bees collect from trees and plants. Being made up of waxes, resins, fatty acids and even amino acids. Aristotle reputedly coined the name Propolis meaning “defender of the city”. This is exactly what Propolis is for the hive, it acts as a bee population’s external immune system keeping the hive sterile and free of microbial invaders

Evidence Based Medicine

In the following paragraphs I will describe to you the pharmacological properties of Propolis. Before I do so I must explain where this evidence comes from. All the properties and actions of Propolis have been witnessed and detailed in scientific studies which have subsequently been published in journals. The bulk of these scientific studies have been performed in vitro (i.e. in a test tube) or in vivo (i.e. in a host animal for example rats), a much smaller proportion of these studies are clinical trials tested on humans. The abstracts of these papers can be found on the Medline and pubmed databases on the Internet.

Propolis: A natural antibiotic

Propolis is probably best known for its antibiotic properties. Even as early as 1960 French1 research demonstrated the bacteriostatic action on Bacillus subtilis, Proteus vulgaris and Bacillus alvei. The results have been replicated many times and Propolis has even been shown to be effective to MRSA2, the same antibiotic resistant bacteria that has infected up to 70% of our hospitals. A 1997 study by Calder et al. at the University of Oxford concurred with these results and found that the cinnaminic acids and flavanoids present in Propolis in particular show bacteriocidal action. This action believed to be as a consequence of Propolis uncoupling the bacterial energy respiratory chain. Interestingly this action may be involved in a synergistic action with antibiotics when used together, boosting the effectiveness of the drugs.

Anti-Viral and immuno-stimulatory

Viruses present a unique dilemma in the quest for good health, they are not affected by antibiotics and mutate so frequently that vaccines are hard to produce. They also cause illness by hijacking cells and using the cells machinery to replicate. Modern drugs aim to slow or stop the virus from the replicating and subsequently because they are attacking host cell machinery they have certain side effects. Viruses perhaps pose the greatest threat to humans’ health, we are currently in the middle of a HIV pandemic with “39.4 million” people infected world wide. With a Flu pandemic overdue and certainly on its way and predictions of world wide casualties and chaos, a solution is needed.

The bioflavanoids in propolis have a unique approach to combating Viruses, instead of trying to combat them once they have infected a cell, they lock the virus in its protein coat. This means that the dangerous machinery and DNA/RNA of the virus is nullified and the infection stopped. Propolis has been shown to be more effective than the pharmaceutical anti-viral acyclovir in treating genital Herpes in a clinical trial conducted in the Ukraine4 and there is growing evidence that Propolis could help treat people with HIV5.

Propolis also works hard as an immunomodulator which is of interest for all of us. It does this by altering the way cytokine production and release is managed. Cytokines are the chemical messengers that allow immune system cells to communicate. By altering the cytokine system, it primes the immune system to be ready to react to antigens quickly and effectively.

As well as this, bioflavanoids within Propolis stimulate the production of interferon which can help people recover from ME, stimulating their immune system. This alteration of the cytokine and interferon systems means that your body is ready to fight off infection and keep you healthy, making a case for using propolis as a supplement for good health, like vitamins. Prevention is better than the cure.

Anti-inflammatory and anti-allergen

A survey of Propolis consumers showed that arthritis was the health problem that Propolis was used to treat the most. This is because of the potent anti-inflammatory properties of the propolis constituents in particular CAPE (Caffeic acid Phenyl ester), CAPE has been shown to suppress T cell activation. A paper by Marquez et al in 20046 evaluated this to mean that since T-cells play a key role in the onset of several inflammatory diseases, CAPE is important because the this phenolic compound is a potent inhibitor of early and late events in T-cell receptor-mediated T-cell activation. Results like this have led other researchers to propose that CAPE is a worthwhile agent for reducing the severity of conditions associated with inflammation.

Many of the experiments performed on CAPE were done so in vitro, however the anti-inflammatory properties of Propolis have been documented in rats when treating rat adjuvant arthritis. A paper by Park et al in 19997 concluding that the ethanolic extract of propolis had profound anti-inflammatory effects on both chronic and acute arthritic inflammations. These anti-inflammation properties extend to other illness and disorders such as asthma and allergies reducing both smooth muscle airway contraction8 and allergic responses. Any disorder or illness related to inflammation could be helped by Propolis.

Anti-tumour/cancer

Propolis and CAPE have been shown to reduce the size of tumours and to selectively destroy and to curb the proliferation of malignant cells of many different types of cancer. As recently as June 10th 2005 Cancer researchers have been given a grant of a million dollars to investigate the therapeutic value of Propolis for cancer. Costas Koumenis the lead investigator for the study was quoted as saying, “a very interesting property of these compounds is that they have been shown to cause cell death in tumor cells but not in normal cells.” This study along with other current studies promises to propel Propolis into the limelight in the field of cancer treatment.

Are You Missing Something? Like the Inside of Your Bones? (Part 3 of 4)

Writen by Dr. Leslie Van Romer

Let’s take an honest look at some of the osteoporosis studies and statistics and how osteoporosis affects health and fitness.

Americans, along with people in Great Britain, Finland, and Sweden, consume more calcium in the form of dairy products and calcium tablets than any other country in the world. These are the very countries that also have the most osteoporosis in the world.

You can’t help but wonder why.

Over half the people in the United States over 60-years-old get osteoporosis that leads to fractures and often premature death. 50% of bone loss in women occurs prior to menopause. One out of four, that’s 25%, of all women get spinal fractures which are very painful, debilitating, and often lead to premature death.

Maybe we are doing something wrong!

In 1985, the National Dairy Council decided to prove once and for all that drinking milk was good for the bones. It had been claiming it for decades, but it wanted to now prove it.

So, the dairy industry sponsored a study which was published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. In this study, postmenopausal women were divided into two groups. One group drank three 8 ounces of skim milk every day giving them a grand total of 1400mg of calcium. The other group drank no milk.

The conclusion was most fascinating, and not at all what the National Dairy Council expected. The women who drank the 3 glasses of milk a day ended up having 2x as much bone loss as those women who drank no milk.

But have you heard or read about this study in the media? Of course not. Quite the contrary, our minds are constantly filled by the non-stop chatter by the dairy industry. “Got milk?”

To my knowledge, the National Dairy Council has not conducted another study like this one.

However, in Harvard’s large nurses’ study conducted on 75,000 women, similar results were found. The women who ate more calcium through dairy products had substantially more fractures than those women who drank less milk. Did you hear of these results in the news or from your doctor? My guess is no.

The secret to preventing osteoporosis is not drinking milk or taking calcium tablets. The secret to the prevention of osteoporosis is the same secret that prevents so many other common conditions and diseases that are epidemic in the United States and other modern cultures, namely: cancer, heart disease, strokes, high blood pressure, diabetes, digestive disorders, and many others.

And what do you think that secret is?

You may know the answereating a plant-based diet and daily exercise.

“You mean that plant foods provide enough calcium for strong bones and teeth?”

Absolutely and find out the straight skinny in Part 4 of “Are You Missing Something? Like the Inside of Your Bones?”

Enhance Your Aura for Better Health

Writen by Anthony Garson

Auras

The aura is a unique field of energy that surrounds all living things, reflecting the energy of the spirit in that body. Its colors, textures and patterns give information about the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual states of its owner.

Everything in the universe possesses an energy field around it. Although it is generally invisible to the untrained eye, this energy field or aura extends outward from the object. For human beings, this field of energy is sometimes known as the electromagnetic field. It is ovoid in shape, and its width and color varies with each individual, depending on their level of spiritual growth and physical health.

Studies have indicated that illnesses begin to manifest in the human’s aura long before they become apparent in the physical body. Therefore Aura cleansing, which is used by most healers to remove sluggish negative energy from the being’s energy field, is also a necessary step towards the healing of the physical body. As the aura is cleansed, any denser negative energy in the physical body will be broken up and moved into the energy field, where it can be easily cleared.

Detecting your Aura

There are many ways your aura can be detected, including through the naked eye, by feeling the energy shifts, thermographs, kirlian photography, aura readings and dowsing.

A novice choosing to undertake healing work or auric studies will generally only have access to dowsing rods, a pendulum and their intuitive abilities. With simple guidance and some practice, he can easily become proficient in the usage of some of the above methods, even using them with great accuracy. These are tools sufficient enough to test the energy level in individual chakras, and detect where blockages may be occurring.

Aura & Your Health

The aura is filled with colors that are constantly changing according to our physical and spiritual wellbeing. A healthy body’s aura possesses a specific color pattern. When the bearer experiences illnesses or changes in moods or emotions, distortions in the healthy color patterns can be detected.

The aura, shaped by the constant interaction of mental, physical and spiritual factors, is very dependent and sensitive to our inner and outer environment. Your personality, health status, emotional and mental wellbeing, social factors and surrounding environmental conditions can have a significant effect on your aura.

Negative emotional states assert a deteriorating effect on the body and drain the system of its energy. This explains why one’s performance level tends to drop drastically during moments when experiencing emotional states such as fear, hostility and frustration. Similarly, low self-esteem and negative social interactions can too weaken the aura and seriously diminish its energy supply.

Environmental pollutants such as radiation can also tarnish and distort the aura, which is of a major concern now as background radiation has been rising significantly by factors of thousands in the general population since the Second World War. Then in the 1990s come another breakthrough in wireless technology – the cell phone. Despite the communication benefits it brings about, the radiation the cell phone emits is capable of completely distorting and destroying one’s energy field. Simple dowsing can be used to justify this almost non-existence of the aura when one is in possession of the cell phone.

Enhancing your Aura

Enhancement of one’s aura can be done in 3 simple steps – Maintain a positive outlook on life’s events; Eat and stay healthy; and meditate frequently to free your mind of any negative thoughts and emotional states, thus cleansing your aura in the process.

Meditation is the key to cleansing, healing and sealing your aura. However, if done wrongly, can lead to disastrous effects. Here I recommend a very simple form of meditation for beginners:

1. Sit yourself in a quiet room with no distractions.

2. Dim the room and place a lighted candle about 6 inches in front of you.

3. Close your eyes and relax, controlling and remembering your breath.

4. Take deep breathes very slowly.

5. When you are completely wound down, start feeling the light in front of you.

6. Picture the light forming a layer over your body.

7. Inhale this light, feel the energy building up in your body.

8. Picture yourself glowing. Your aura has become stronger.

The meditation can take anywhere between 7 to 20 minutes, depending on individuals. You should feel lighter, more focused and energetic after that.

Aura Enhancing Devices

There are products that, when placed near your body, will enhance your aura. These products can help accelerate your healing process, both spiritually and physically. They are usually used by individuals seeking constant optimum performance, but are fast becoming a common recommendation by alternative healers for their patients as a form of health enhancement and protection.

RADAR is an Aura Enhacing device used for protection against cell phone radiation and also to boost your energy field, accelerating your healing process. It is available at http://www.avasafe.com

A Personal Trainers…Holidaze

Writen by Deborah Caruana

Rules of day to day no longer apply as you surrender to the hearts and minds of those closest. Conversation, food and wine are intoxicating. You can’t leave the table the conversation is too good. The holiday food keeps coming. I fall back into the silken warmth of family stories and recollections of past years.

I generally eat until I am sated but now its quest for space, I must keep up, I can’t be that “I don’t eat that wimp”. I can’t spoil this mood and bring everyone down to reality! Somehow I manage to find space for that piece of dark nutty chocolate beckoning me to come home to my pallette, where it would receive all the comfort love and warmth I need to express in this state of holiday bliss. I have now surrendered.. The conversation wonders back to a particular chocolate that sister in law is passionate about and as she unfolds its mysteries you must taste and discover. This is no time for excuses.

Feeling good. Eyes wonder out to the blanket of snow and everything feels safe and warm. The last place I would want to go is out into the cold (’reality’ I think). All is swell; until that transition day when you walk back into the doors of your own home. if you can fit.

All the good times, and intoxication are fading into never ever land. I look at myself in the mirror and think “I did my duty”. Then dreamily go into a fond reverie.until I try on those tight jeans!!!

It’s time to take action, I feel passionate again, my workouts are inspired. I’m like Rocky Balboa. Underdog to champion. As long as I try my best I am guaranteed results, I can only get better from here. It’s back to clean living and motorvation.

More than anything I think it’s the transitions that are harder than anything. Resisting the surrendering to the holidaze, then resisting leaving them. And it’s exactly this change that fuels the fire within. Change, is like a breath of fresh air. The air causes a conflagration, of fire for inspiration.

Anoxic Brain Injury

Writen by Max Bellamy

Anoxic brain injury is a type of brain damage brought about by the absence of oxygen distributed to the brain. It is a condition wherein there is no or little oxygen introduced into the tissues of the brain even if blood flow is sufficient. This condition is usually caused by an interruption of the respiratory. These interruptions in breathing may result from various situations such as drowning, choking, applying undue pressure to the chest and the abdomen, asthma and strangulation.

Lack of oxygen supply to the brain even for only a few minutes can lead to serious damage of the brain tissues. Such damage can affect those areas in the brain that are responsible for conscious behavior and speech. It also is very dangerous when the brain suffers from a severely deficient supply of oxygen, because aside from brain damage, unconsciousness or even death can happen.

Obstructions in the lung passages are not only the causes of anoxic brain damage. When people enter environments that are lacking oxygen and have excess levels of carbon dioxide or carbon monoxide, anoxia can result. For example, being stranded for hours in an elevator full of people can cause difficulty in breathing. Other factors that affect respiration are drug overdose, contact with a pulmonary agent or cyanogenic compound and seizures that could stop a person’s breathing, including heart attacks and strokes. Problems during pregnancy and labor can also affect oxygen circulation, causing a baby to suffer from brain damage. Still births are also a big possibility.

Anoxic brain injury can be remedied at once in some cases. For instance, in cases of drowning and severe asthma attacks, applying artificial respiration and giving the patient sufficient breathing space can prevent brain injury. When proper action is not done at once, the patient could lose consciousness or even die.

How Essential Fatty Acids Improve Your Brain Power and Mental Health

Writen by Rudy Silva

What is your brain made of

Over 50% of your brain is made of good fat. Twenty percent of this good fat comes from EPA and DHA. Remember EPA and DHA comes from,

* omega-3 fatty acids

* eating fish

* borage oil

* primrose oil

* parilla oil

* NOK oil

I have covered all these oils in other articles except NKO Krill Oil. This oil is the new kid on the block. It comes from Antarctic krill, a crustacean found in the Antarctic waters. It provides EPA and DHA like borage oil does, but its chemical structure is phospholipids. Phospholipids are easier for your cells to absorb than borage oil’s EPA and DHA, which is in the form of tryglycerides.

The essential fatty acids provide the chemical molecules to make Phospholipids. These phospholipids gather together to form a protective barrier around each cell in your body.

If the fatty acids are in phospholipids form, your body is able to use them quicker and more efficiently.

This is what makes NOK oil a more bio-available advanced oil than borage or primrose oil.

If you are deficient in the essential fatty acids, you will be more susceptible to these conditions:

* Alzheimer’s disease

* Anxiety and body stress

* Heart disease

* Attention deficit disorder

* Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder

* Bipolar disorder

* Chronic fatigue syndrome

* Depression

* Learning disorders

* Memory impairment

* Parkinson’s disease

* Schizophrenia

Making Your Brain Work Like It Should

Your brain needs a good daily supply of the essential fatty acid omega-3. It also uses omega-6 and AA (Arachidonic acid). So this means taking a good dose of NKO oil is a necessary daily routine for keeping your brain from shrinking.

Alzheimer’s disease

Doctors believe that if every one lived to be over 120 years, they would come down with Alzheimer’s disease. It is a disease that once your have it, all you can do, at this time, is to slow its progression using certain drugs and nutrients.

Before your brain starts to deteriorated to where it contains nodules of toxins, excess oxidation due to free radicals, and weaken and narrowing blood vessels, it might be a good idea to start feeding it the food it needs.

DHA is in order for Alzheimer’s disease. When DHA is deficient in your diet, you can expect to have memory loss and become depressed as you age.

Lecithin is also in order since it helps to provide choline, a precursor to the memory neurotransmitter acetylcholine. It also provide the chemicals to produce RNA.

Heart disease is closely related to Alzheimer’s because the heart must be strong enough to pump plenty of blood into the brain and the arteries must open enough to circulate enough blood through the brain and throughout your body.

Even if you don’t come down with Alzheimer’s or your family history doesn’t support it, most of us are in line for dementia. Dementia is also attributed to deterioration of brain cells and support tissue. One of the causes of dementia is a diet that has been deficient in the essential fatty acids.

Here are my recommendation for supplementing with the essential fatty acids:

* Eat more good fish, at least once a week and occasionally twice a week

* Eat less fat and particularly saturated fat. A good number for daily fat intake is 15-20% of your overall calories.

* Take daily, flax seed oil and olive oil for the omega-3 and omega-6 oils

* Take a daily supplement of NKO or Borage oil which supplies EPA and DHA
