ADHD Nutrition

Writen by Dennis Driscoll

A Specialized ADHD Nutrition Plan Could Help Patients Focus

Currently one of the most widely accepted theories about attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is that it is caused by nutritional problems. This theory really only applies to childhood ADHD and does not even account for all of the childhood ADHD cases, but when some dietary studies were conducted on ADHD nutrition plans for those with the disorder, there were some beneficial results. The whole nutrition and ADHD correlation emerged in nineteen ninety when an English researcher found out that certain artificial food colorings found in some foods could actually deplete the amounts of zinc in an ADHD patient’s body. Later, scientists also found that those children suffering from ADHD also had lower levels of required sulfate molecules throughout the body. Studies which attempt to prove that ADHD and diet are not related at all, citing that only five percent of all ADHD patients have something wrong with their normal dietary intake. Whatever the case, putting your child on an ADHD nutrition plan may be one possible way to help alleviate the hyperactivity associated with such a disorder.

There are several key aspects to an ADHD nutrition plan that any parent should keep in mind. The first and possibly most obvious of any diet is to make sure that your hyperactive child does not receive any sugary sweets or any candy. This should also include sodas and any other products which are high in sugar. By cutting sugars out of the ADHD nutrition plan, your child will not exhibit the hyperactive energy associated with ADHD. Also, make sure your child avoids caffeine, as caffeine has the same stimulating effect on the body as sugar. If you find that neither of these two ADHD nutrition changes affects your child, try taking any and all wheat products out of their diet. Some kids have an undiagnosed wheat allergy which can contribute to hyperactivity. Instead of the wheat products, switch to oats and rye. Finally, and this goes for any child (not just those with ADHD), make sure your child gets plenty of vegetables and fruits in their diet along with fish at least once a week.

An alternative to just cutting out sugars and caffeine from an attention deficit hyperactivity disorder patient’s diet was created by Dr. Benjamin Feingold. Aptly named the Feingold diet, this ADHD nutrition plan focused on the research which linked artificial colors and flavors to the loss of zinc in certain children’s bodies. This diet has been the source of much debate over its effectiveness, but for those looking for a dietary way to combat the problems associated with ADHD, the Feingold diet may be a good method to check out.

The Feingold ADHD nutrition plan is currently a two step program with the first step requiring the elimination of all artificial colors and flavors from the child’s food. The second step of the Feingold program requires that all aspirin containing products and natural salicylate containing foods should also be removed from the child’s diet. While this method of ADHD nutrition may prove to be useful, there are actually certain claims which Feingold makes that are totally incorrect. Most importantly, certain nutritional experts have shown that in the Feingold diet cookbook many of the recommended foods are actually high in salicylates; a chemical which Feingold says can cause your child to be hyperactive.

Cellulite Reducer or Liposuction? How Should You Get Rid of Cellulite?

Writen by Ian Henman

So what exactly is this evil cellulite that so many of us suffer from? Simply put its small amounts of fat that become trapped in pockets just below the skins surface. Because the fat is close to the surface, it creates the icky cottage cheese appearance we all love so much. Thankfully there is an entire market developing around a new product, the Cellulite Reducer.

The answer for the last couple of decades to Cellulite has been liposuction. Simply put they suck the fat out of you, but since it is a medical procedure there are risks associated with it. Risks associated with Liposuction are:

Scars, swelling, infections, contour irregularities, and loose skin just to name a few.

Combine the medical risks associated with the expense of liposuction and it shouldn’t be a hard decision to give a good cellulite reducer a try before going under the knife. It’s a safer alternative and a lot less costly.

So how does a cellulite reducer work? If it’s not pulling the fat out of the problem areas how does it act on them from the outside?

First thing is there are some pill-based products that you can take as a cellulite reducer. It’s not really the best way to cure cellulite because blood doesn’t run well in the areas where cellulite exists. With low blood flow, it’s difficult to get the active ingredients to the area to reduce the cellulite. However you may think that’s it’s just as difficult to solve the cellulite problem from the outside in.

Not true, many cellulite reducers that are cream based products are applied to the affected area once or twice a day but they use active ingredients to actually shrink the fat below the skin. By shrinking the fat cells skin becomes more toned, and moisturized in the process.

It makes more sense to give a cellulite reducer a try. Of course the products do work. Most companies have many testimonials on their site about successful clients, but these products also have no medical risks and will not hurt your pocket book as much. In as little as 2 weeks some products will show an improvement, but you do need to be committed to the system.

Remember nothing happens over night, you need to follow the product instructions.

To learn more about Cellulite Reducers, and what products can help reduce your cellulite in as little as 2 weeks visit our website Cellulite Reducer.

Cure Your Headache – Without Pills and Drugs

Writen by Virpi Tervonen

Acupressure has many applications in the management of pain and illness. For chronic headache sufferers, this provides a powerful alternative to taking bottles of painkillers which can lead to serious side effects, addiction and decreased effectiveness over time. A drug-free approach to creating better health and wellness, acupressure is definitely something worth considering if you are experiencing any number of chronic pain issues.

Drawing on centuries of Chinese medical knowledge, acupressure is just one form of numerous bodywork approaches that concentrate on the body’s vital energy flow. Pain and illness is viewed in terms of energy blockage, and using acupressure to resolve this results in both alleviating the symptoms present, and promoting good health overall. By simply applying pressure to specific areas, you can stimulate or relax the related organs or muscles, bringing much needed relief.

Thus, acupressure stimulates your body’s self curative abilities, which is opposed to common painkillers. Acupressure is one of the safest and most effective ways known to control and cure headaches. You do not need any previous knowledge about massage, nor be a medical professional in order to utilize acupressure.

Because of the simplicity, safety and effectiveness of the acupressure, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends it for pain relief. You can practice acupressure on yourself, family member or a friend. You can use the pressure points when a problem first becomes evident, and prevent the development of the headache, or reduce its severity.

By listening to your body’s pain signals, you can take the appropriate action to avoid pain and discomfort. It makes sense to take preventive measures rather than have to deal with the aftermath of a full blown headache, which can disrupt your routine and leave you exhausted.

Just by using one or two acupressure points can be remarkably effective for getting relief from headaches. In addition to that, acupressure is a treatment you can take with you everywhere you go, and it is easy and effortless to apply. For frequent and chronic headache sufferers acupressure may offer a whole new way of life.

Virpi Tervonen reveals the most effective acupressure points that relieve lower back and hip pain, sciatica, and stiff shoulders and neck in her new acupressure guide. If you suffer from any type of back pain, be sure that you don’t make any of the 5 common mistakes that might keep you needlessly in pain. Automatic Dehydration Return Sportswear Sensors

Writen by Lance Winslow

I propose Sportswear, which senses the amount of moisture from sweat, which is coming off the body. Think of a bicycle racer in the Tour de Lance. As the racers move up the hill they work their human bodies to the maximum, their bodies sweat and that water must be replaced. The Shorts and shirts can sense the amount of perspiration and heat coming off the body and a simple formula can be figured to give them back that water from their water bottle. As a former marathon runner, I often saw other athletes drink too much water or not enough along the racecourse. We use to call too much water consumption causing a waterlogged effect. Drinking too much water too quickly after a race could actually cause death. Too little and dehydration sets in and decreases both performance during the race and recovery time after the race. When running marathons you do not carry your water bottles, but in bicycle racing you do.

With the advances in re-active camouflage in the military and research being done by those like Joanna “Joey” Berzowski with wearable technology and the work of Dr. Joseph A. Resnick we see that this concept is moving ahead and ready for wide use in the private sector with transfer technology available now.

http://www.nxgenbodyarmorusa.com/

Automatic Dehydration Return Sportswear Sensors can be a reality in a few months from now with the right start-up company and venture capitalization. This idea might also be good in space station wear, military troops, Professional Sporting Athletes, outdoors workers, police men, Aerobic Soccer Moms, NASCAR, Harley Davidson Riders, Aerobatics pilots, etc. A plug in like a diagnostics unit on a car would be located in a seam within the clothing and estimate thru calculation how much water input is needed for the human athlete, solder or professional. Some lying in a hospital could also be properly cared for during the nurse rounds. This idea also lends itself well to racehorses with blankets. The number of applications is truly endless.

The uniform or sportswear would be colored with thermo-chromic ink and conductive threads with either threads of nickel or stainless woven in monitoring the using the latest technologies in biometrics. Once sold in a large scale to multiple industries and sectors the price point would become quite inexpensive to manufacture and thus a high profit business, which might bring the textile industry back to the United States providing thousands of jobs in this new high tech sector of futuristic wearable technologies ushering a new wave of wearable computers.

Healthy Snacks for Kids – Understanding the Food Labels

Writen by Elizabeth Martyn

Are the snacks you’re buying for your children really healthy? It’s time to start scrutinising those labels.

One thing’s sure when you’re buying snacks for your children – you can’t trust what you read on the label. Manufacturers are well-versed in the art of seducing parents with words, to make us believe that we’re buying something that’s good for our kids.

  • A product claiming to be ‘nutritionally equivalent to a portion of fruit’ could also contain a huge range of additives, including sugar and fat, and is likely to clock in at 6 or more times the number of calories of a piece of fresh fruit.

  • Labels that trumpet ‘Reduced fat/salt/sugar’ should also be regarded with suspicion. If levels are mega-high to start with, then they’ll still be too high, even when reduced. Look for ‘low ‘ or ‘no’ salt etc on the label, instead.

  • Words like ‘pure and natural’ are nothing but empty rhetoric. Industry guidelines, that govern wording on packages are consistently abused by manufacturers, who label cheap, low-quality, additive-ridden food with adjectives like ‘farm fresh’, ‘light’, ‘country goodness’ and so on. Ignore.

  • ‘No added sugars’. Sounds good, eh? But there’s more than one way to add sugars – manufacturers simply slosh in fruit juice, which is high in sugar and damaging to teeth. Or else they sweeten the product with artificial sweeteners, which some experts believe should not be given to children.

  • Watch out for ‘fruit flavoured’ – these products don’t have to contain any fresh fruit. ‘Fruit drink’ is another deceptive term, often used on products that masquerade as pure juice – until you inspect the small print. Along with the juice, which may not form a very large proportion of the drink, you’ll also find lots of sugar/sweeteners, and possibly other additives as well. Seek out pure juice instead.

Once you are wised up to labels, you’ll find they make interesting – if disconcerting – reading. The bottom line – never believe the claims of a label, until you’ve taken a good, close look for yourself.

Importance of Controlling Your Mind

Writen by Kevin Pederson

Since ancient times, the human philosophers have realized the importance of mind in governing the human affairs. They knew that a person’s external circumstances were the result of his internal thoughts. They were aware that if the person thought riches, he would be riches, while the thoughts of poverty, success and failure would produce the corresponding effects in the person’s circumstances. Today, modern science has acknowledged the truth of these findings. Hence it becomes crucial for a person to control his mind.

Yoga has specific techniques which deal with the science of mind control. We will study the nature of mind as is recognized by yoga in this chapter. Shankaracharya has defined mind in four different ways as per its functions: manas for the job of resolving and doubting; buddhi for the decision and judgment; asmita for the consciousness of its individual existence and chita for remembering the previous experiences. Mind is a vast collection of thoughts and traces of the past experiences. When you are born, your mind is the collection of samskaras collected over the previous births. Those samskaras, whose fruits have already been enjoyed have been wiped out. But as you grow up, new samskaras are being added continuously due to various acts performed by you from birth to death. This translates into the law of karma which states that the events one faces in his life are the results of the activities done by him in the past and his mind at birth contains the samskaras from his previous births. Our

Yoga recognizes five factors, basic to the mind of every person. They are called kleshas because they are the forefathers of every human misery. They are: avidya which is the false knowledge or ignorance of one’s true self in relation to the objects; asmita or ego feeling since in yoga, body and soul are two different aspects; raga is the liking of pleasurable experience; dvesha or aversion to pain; abhinivesha or fear of death. Yoga understands the human behaviour from the perspective of these five qualities which are assumed to be present in a person since birth and are considered as the impurities of the mind. They make a person unstable and agitated. Hence yoga has given way of dhyana and pranayam to cleanse your mind.

Kevin Pederson, the webmaster for Yogawiz, mentions all about http://www.yogawiz.com importance of yoga, history of yoga, mind control and meditation technique through Mantra Yoga. Yoga recognizes the importance of having a healthy mind in your life.

CT and MRI Scans in Neurological Practice: A Quick Overview

Writen by Gary Cordingley

Before computed tomographic (CT) scans became available in the 1970s, there was no good method for imaging the brain. The available methods and technologies struck around the target without quite hitting the bull’s-eye.

We had skull x-rays which imaged the bony brain-case, but not the brain itself. We had arteriograms which imaged the insides of blood-vessels supplying the brain. We had nuclear brain scans which imaged chunks of brain that were recently damaged. We had a particularly nasty test called a pneumoencephalogram (PEG) in which the doctor squirted air through a spinal tap needle and encouraged it to bubble around and inside the brain by turning the patient every which-a-wayincluding upside-downwhile x-ray pictures showed where the air could and couldn’t go. Finally, the most accurate method was not a physical picture at all, but a mind’s-eye picture within the brain of an examining neurologist. Yet diagnoses still got made and patients did get treated.

CT scans revolutionized the practice of neurology. It’s not that the other methods disappeared (well, yes, PEGs thankfully did disappear) but that CT scans vastly improved the accuracy of diagnosis and treatment. Even when CT scans didn’t show the disease itself (e.g. multiple sclerosis or a fresh stroke) they assisted the diagnostic process by proving the absence of a brain tumor, abscess or hemorrhage that were also on the list of diagnostic possibilities.

CT scans did (and still do) this by sending x-ray beams through the head at various angles and collecting the x-ray beams on the opposite side that were not absorbed by the head. Then magic occurs. A series of images appear on a computer monitor or on x-ray film as if the head had been run through a giant salami-cutter and the slices were laid out flat and in sequence.

On CT pictures the different parts of the head are displayed in various shades of gray according to how much they absorb x-rays. The skull-bone absorbs x-rays the most and shows as the whitest component. At the other end of the gray-scale, the watery spaces in and around the brain absorb x-rays the least and show as the blackest components. The brain itself is somewhere in between, showing up in the mid-gray range. Abnormal components, like brain tumors and blood-collections, are identified not just by appearing in their own shades of gray, but also by their locations and shapes. Creating a second set of slices after the patient receives an infusion of intravenous dye provides an additional dimension to imaging not unlike that provided by the older, nuclear scans.

Then in the 1980s magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans burst upon the scene and astonished the medical community by not just imaging the brain itself, but by doing so in a brand-new way. Instead of imaging the extent to which the head’s different components absorb x-rays, MRIs instead focus on water-molecules. To be more precise, MRIs image the rate at which spinning hydrogen-atoms of water molecules within different parts of the brain either line-up or fall out or alignment with a strong magnetic field. These differing rates of magnetization or de-magnetization are fed into a computer. Then magic occurs yet again. A series of slice-like images is created and displayed on a computer-screen or x-ray-type film in shades of gray. Abnormal structures, like brain-tumors or the plaques of multiple sclerosis, are displayed in their own shades of gray and are also recognizable by their shapes and locations. Obtaining another set of images after intravenous administration of gadoliniumthe MRI equivalent of x-ray dyealso adds diagnostic information.

One of the virtues of MRI pictures is that they are based on physical principles totally different from those responsible for creating CT pictures. Thus, the MRI is good (or not so good) at showing different things than CTs. Another virtue is that MRIs can slice and dice the brain at different angles, while CTs slices are limited to just the horizontal plane. Yet another virtue of MRIs is that they are much better than CTs at imaging most diseases of the spine. Finally, MRIs are much more flexible than CTs: new bells, whistles and capabilities are being added all the time.

To the patient, the experiences of having a CT and of having an MRI greatly resemble each other. In both cases the patient lies horizontally on a flat table that moves into and out of an opening in the scanner that resembles a giant doughnut-hole. The doughnut-hole in the MRI machine is narrower, so claustrophobic patients need to inform their doctors if this might be a problem. The MRI machine is also noisier: a loud sound is created each time its radio-frequency coils turn on and off. For each kind of scan the technologist might stick a needle in the patient’s vein to administer contrast-material.

Both tests are otherwise painless and are very safe with certain exceptions. Pregnant women who need a scan might have to do without one for fear of exposing the fetus to excessive x-rays in the case of the CT scan or to an excessive magnetic field in the case of the MRI. If push comes to shove, the woman is more likely to receive a CT scan because her abdomen can be draped with a lead shield that blocks passage of most x-rays, while there is no good method for blocking the magnetic field produced by an MRI machine.

A circumstance in which MRIs are simply not done is when the patient has a cardiac pacemaker. This is because the MRI machine’s magnet might disrupt the pacemaker and stop the heart. No image is so necessary and valuable that this risk would be worth taking. Another circumstance in which an MRI is avoided is when the patient is critically ill. An unstable patient can be adequately monitored and supported while receiving a CT scan, but not while receiving an MRI.

Depending on the nature of the patient’s problem, the doctor will usually order just one of the two types of scans and not the other, but in selected cases the magic of both kinds of scan might be needed.

Free Samples of Contact Lenses: Free Giveaways or Shameful Promotions?

Writen by Steve Cogger

So, you are looking for free samples of contact lenses? Perhaps you saw a commercial that said “visit our website for a coupon to receive free samples of contact lenses.” Or, “see your eye care provider today for your free pair of so and so lenses.”

While this a great way for lens manufacturers to have you try their brand of contact lenses, most contact lens fitters do not require such coupons.

In order to get free samples of contact lenses, that particular lens must still be fit to your eye. Therefore you must still visit your eye care specialist. A properly fit soft contact lens must center correctly, move slightly with a blink, match the contour of your eye, and correct your vision. Any lens that does not meet all those minimum criteria does not fit. So why bother with some free samples of contact lenses that won’t work for you?

Here is a secret the other websites and commercial advertisements might not be telling you: You don’t need a coupon to get free samples of contact lenses.

If you are having issues with your current lenses, or have never worn lenses before, your specialist will fit you with something different. Depending on the type of fit, your lens fitter may have diagnostic lenses in the office for evaluation. If the diagnostic contact lenses are a good fit, chances are you can take them home to try out (yes, even without a coupon).

There are some instances where free samples of contact lenses can not be handed out. For example, if you do not wear a pre-packaged, disposable contact lens. Non disposable lenses are not given to eye care providers as diagnostic tools and therefore will need to be ordered per case. Also, gas permeable contacts can not be given out as free samples. Every gas permeable contact lens is made per specs for an individual patient; therefore it would not be possible to have free samples on hand.

So you can search out coupons for free samples of contact lenses, or you can let your specialist decide which lenses might be a better option for you.

Steve Cogger helps thousands of contact lenses wearers find the perfect lens for their eyes. His busy New York practice specializes in all lens modalities. For more consumer information and education, visit the informative contact lens website.

I Need Anti-aging Cream – But Do It Really Work?

Writen by Janis Elliot

I remember catching a side glimpse of myself in a mirror one day and thinking: ‘Where the heck did that aging skin come from?’ It was almost as if I’d grown old overnight. To torture myself still further, I kept looking at myself under different lights, in different mirrors and at different angles just so I could worry myself sick about something I couldn’t change. Or could I?

I decided right there and then that I would not grow old gracefully and would try everything within my physical and financial power to slow down or at least cover up this inevitable aging of the flesh.

First stop was to read up and get educated on some of the anti aging products out there. I decided that the creams and non surgical treatments had to be explored before the surgeon’s knife.

Okay, so we’re all smart enough these days to know that the claims for magic anti-aging cream this and miracle anti-aging cream that, are not truly going to stop or reverse the aging process, but they can make aging more pleasing, more attractive, and therefore more acceptable overall.

I remember my great-auntie Pamela and how good she looked for her age. I asked my mother if she had any secrets for here youthful looks and she said that auntie always avoided exposure to the sun. Ah, where have we heard that one before? The trouble is that we don’t care when we’re young, and most of us bask in the summer sunshine for hours at a time as we compete for the best tan in town. I later found out that years of harsh exposure to the sun’s rays, plays a latent game and it’s only when we hit middle years does all that previous tanning kick-in as it begins to age our skin in quite a cruel and premature manner.

Anyway, I can’t undo what’s already been done but that doesn’t mean I have to accept my lot if there’s any chance of changing it. I’ve read a variety of reviews from real customers on many of the popular products and some of the alternative methods used in fighting the aging process. These are reviews from folks who’ve already tried these products and can recommend them from experience. I suggest everyone reads customer reviews before paying for anything. A lot of these anti aging creams in particular can be very costly and the girls at the counter will quite often tell you exactly what you want to hear just to make a sale.

I’ve since found a couple of products that I have to say appear to be doing wonders for my complexion, but it will be some time yet before I get any real results from these anti aging creams as they are part of a program which boasts amazing results in just 6 months. If all fails, I’ll probably be replacing the anti aging cream with a few high street botox jabs and maybe that will progress into a cut and tuck down at the local plastic surgery, but let’s take it one step and one day at a time, as I’m not there yet.

Janis Elliot is a freelance writer, website copywriter, world traveler, and beautician. Some of her latest works can be seen at Antiallsorts dot com where she writes about Anti Aging Treatments and various other anti aging products.
