Bikini Line Hair Removal and Shaving

Writen by Oliver Turner

Shaving pubic areas with an electric razor.

Electric shavers for women have come a long way since they were first introduced after the war. Many will shave pubic hair quickly and, more importantly, safely, as nicks and cuts are impossible.

All shavers shave pubic hair that is soft best. Take a hot shower of bath before shaving pubic areas to soften hair. A lot of bacteria lives in the bikini area, and this will help prevent them getting into the hair follicles after you’ve shaved. Some electric shavers are good for wet shaving and if yours is, you may even be able to shave in the shower. Obviously, only battery-operated shavers should be used in the shower and always read the product manual to make sure yours is suitable for shower use. Some women say that shaving pubic areas wet with an electric shaver gives them a closer shave.

If your shaver can’t be used wet, make sure you dry the pubic hair and skin thoroughly before beginning to shave pubic hair. Almost all electric shavers work best without shaving cream so don’t use it unless the instructions tell you to. The shaving part couldn’t be easier. A gentle back and forth motions is usually recommended but try not to go over the same skin too much, as this will increase skin irritations. When women first start shaving pubic areas, red bumps and other skin irritations are common but these should diminish as your skin gets used to being shaved and it’s worth persevering.

Another downside of shaving pubic areas is itching between shaves. As you are cutting the hairs at skin level, this could begin within 24 hours or as soon as the now-sharp hairs start to appear. If your skin is up to it, shaving daily should prevent this, but never shave bumpy or red and inflamed skin. You could get end up with an infection.

Hair Loss Prevention -The First Step to Stopping Hair Loss

Writen by Keith Londrie

The first step to stopping hair loss is preventing it. Hair loss prevention can be a very difficult task. In fact, if you are experiencing inherited hair loss, you will not be able to prevent it. In this case, you will have to try one of the many hair loss remedies that are available today. There are several to choose from, but I recommend staying with the more popular ones.

If your hair loss is not hereditary, you may have some options available to you to prevent hair loss before it starts. The first step of hair loss prevention is to find out what is causing the problem. To do this, you need to know what some of the common causes are. First off, stress can cause hair loss. Both mental and physical stress can be harmful.

A simple solution to combat stress-related hair loss is to cut the stress. Try to take some extra time each day to relax. Another hair loss prevention step to combat stress may be working less hours each day, or taking a job that does not require as much physical or mental stress. Even thought the job market is fierce, you can, over a period of time, find a different job or even different occupation that has less stress. Stress not only causes hair loss but many other things that are both physical and mental.

Another hair loss prevention step is making sure you get the proper nutritional supplements needed for healthy hair. A lack of protein or iron can cause hair loss. To fix this problem, consult with your physician about taking iron or protein pills. You may also try to consume more foods that contain these nutrients. Yes, a simple change in diet may be all that is needed.

Improper hair care can also cause hair loss. Most people are not aware that improper hair care can be detrimental. Hair loss prevention shampoos are available to ensure that you keep your hair healthy. You can visit your local drug store to find a shampoo or schedule a visit with the dermatologist for something more potent. The dermatologist can help provide you with options for caring for your hair.

Hair loss prevention may be your best defense against hair loss. Remember to stay stress free, get the proper vitamins, and take care of your hair. It is through these measures that you can best combat hair loss that is not genetic.

Empower Your Shopping Experience

Writen by Antoinette Mc Donnell

Healthy living begins with healthy eating and healthy eating begins with healthy shopping…

Regardless of what nutritional program you are following – whether it is low fat, no-sugar, low carbohydrate, or based on some other method – there are always healthier choices that can be made when you are shopping.

Support your nutritional program week-by-week and day-by-day by ensuring that you stock up on the wholesome foods you need for your meals and snacks. Having the right food on hand helps you avoid eating the wrong things such as food, which are too high in fat, calories, sodium, and sugar. Additionally, shopping wisely helps you eat more of the good things like fibre, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

Use the suggestions below to avoid supermarket “traps” and help stay on track…

Plan The Shop & Shop The Plan

Put on your ‘thinking cap’ and make a list of the foods you need before you shop and stick closely to it. Plan your shopping around your favourite meals and recipes & don’t be tempted by those wayward specials that may fall outside of the foods best for your program.

HALT! Don’t Shop When You’re Hungry-Angry-Lonely-Tired

Heed this word and make sure to eat before you shop to avoid impulse buying or stocking up on items you may regret later.

Begin With Colours

Fill up your shopping cart first in the produce section with lots of vitamin-rich vegetables and fruits. Select a variety of colours, flavours and textures to add interest and variety to your meals. Be adventurous and go for exotic fruits or vegetables that you may not usually choose.

Choose Individual Servings

When buying chicken, fish or meat, get single meal-size servings that you can freeze and use as needed. That way you’ll always have good-quality fresh protein on hand and won’t be tempted to eat more than your body wants. Likewise, buy fresh vegetables like mini carrots in small packages too. They’ll stay fresh and make convenient “on-the-go” snacks.

Read Labels

Supermarket aisles are avenues to greater nutritional knowledge as the food label offers more complete, useful and accurate nutrition information than ever before. Become a fervent ‘label reader’ and scrutinize packaged foods, dressings and sauces before purchasing.

Avoid The “Aisle Of Weakness”

In all honesty, everyone has their “aisle of weakness”-be it the ice cream, cakes or sweet section. Do yourself a favour and avoid mouth watering temptation by steering completely clear of the entire area. And this “aisle” (or “aisles”) is usually found in the centre! So, shop the perimeter of the store first, which is where you find the healthier foods.

Tantalize & Excite Your Taste Buds

Stimulate your palate and your recipes with the inspiration of fresh herbs like basil, ginger, lemongrass and cilantro. In addition, stock up on spices that can literally transform an ordinary meal into an exotic dish. Actively pursue variety. Expand your range of choices and explore new tastes, within and among food groups. Eating a wide variety of foods not only promotes optimal nutrition but also provides us with the ‘pleasure factor’.

Don’t Feel Deprived

Even though there are certain foods you’ll want to avoid on your nutritional program, the supermarket is packed with a great variety of health-friendly food items. By choosing a variety of the foods you enjoy, and watching your portions, you need never feel deprived -no matter what foods you choose. Make moderation your goal, you decide how much and how often. Healthy eating doesn’t mean feeling deprived or guilty.

Final Check

Before you check out, ask yourself (honestly!) if there is any item in your shopping cart that you could remove to better support your program. Put yourself and your optimal nutritional program before all else.

When you shop healthily, it is a great contributor to the ‘feel good factor’!! Additionally, consider clearing your cupboards and fridge of any foods that don’t support your program. With only great-tasting nutritious foods around you can cook up a healthy storm and enjoy your meals & snacks to the fullest -and enjoy the pleasurable aspects of eating and… living!

Hair Loss of the Bariatric or Gastric Bypass Patient

Writen by Meloney Hall

DON’T STRESS YOUR SCALP. Avoid SOME Hair Loss!

You are most-likely aware that having Bariatric or Gastric Bypass surgery DOES cause you to experience “some” type of hair loss as you lose the weight so rapidly. You’ve heard the rumors, and they are TRUE to the point that you WILL LOSE some hair but you will not be bald in the least! In all of my years attending a support group, NEVER have I seen one bald person yet! So rest assured that although you DO lose “some” hair, it won’t be all.

Let’s simplify this topic by putting it in a question/answer format:

Q: Why do we lose some hair?

A: As a pre-op person, you used to consume between 3,000 to 5,000 calories a day. But once you have the surgery, your caloric intake is drastically reduced to a mere 300-600 calories a day. This puts the body in an “emergency” mode as it thinks something is terribly wrong, and it begins to focus ONLY on supporting the vital organs that will sustain life. Hair has never been under the category of a “life-sustaining” organ; therefore, the body puts the hair on the back-burner until it is sure that the body is going to be okay enough to again send nutrients to the hair.

Q: When does hair loss begin?

A: It normally will begin anywhere from one month after surgery and last until about 6 months after surgery. Of course, this can begin during the third month or even extend beyond the sixth month. It varies from person to person.

Q: How much hair is lost?

A: Some will jokingly tell you that they could build a cat out of all the hair they lost, but that is not true. While you will notice some handfuls come out as you wash your hair in the shower, see more than normal in your comb or hairbrush, and perhaps even see some on your pillow when you wake up in the morning — this is nothing to be alarmed over. IT WILL STOP FALLING OUT once the body begins to feel that life is “normal” and it will trust that it’s okay to send nutrients to the hair again. Be patient and know that it DOES STOP in time.

There ARE some TIPS that will help you NOT experience so much hair loss, however..

DO NOT wear a hat, scarf, head bands, tight barrettes, ponytail holders or anything similar that will pull or tug on the follicles of your hair. Pulling and pushing on the hair weakens it when it is already eager to fall out. Avoid these items for at least the first six months after surgery.

DO NOT stress the hair with hot treatments such as hairdryers, curling irons, or hot rollers. Stand in front of a fan to dry your hair in a hurry and use good hair jells to create some curl if you want. Sprays are okay too. Even hair color is okay IF you do it sparingly rather than the standard automatic every 6 weeks. Try to go 8 weeks in between hair coloring. Perms are a bit more stressful, though some have had success doing them. You’ll have to judge this for yourself as you evaluate this for yourself. You can always be confident in asking your hairdresser about it if you are not sure.

DO TRY a new hair style. As heavy people, we often relied on our hair’s BEST looks to draw attention away from our extra pounds. But as you are losing, people aren’t noticing your hair anymore they are noticing the pounds falling off, which is a perfect time for you to consider totally changing your hair style IF it will help you manage it better and also keep more of it on your head. Long hair is a heaviness on the head, which does stress and pull at the hair follicles. So perhaps a shorter style would help your delicate hair stay ON the head. Just as your body is experiencing a “makeover”, why not consider your hairstyle as well. Especially if it will help you KEEP more hair?

DO TRY a product called NIOXIN that you can purchase from your beauty salon. It’s a three-step process of a product that helps cancer patients keep more of their hair as it falls out. It strengthens the follicles. I personally used this product, and I fully believe it helped more of my hair stay attached than what might have happened had I not used it. I noticed a remarkable difference when I used this product. And I can tell you that others also have similar testimonials on this product.

DO TRY to remember that your hair is only falling out temporarily and it will soon STOP and STAY ON again! Some people have experienced that their hair soon becomes healthier than they’ve ever had before! Sometimes the texture even changes. Sounds FUN, huh? It can be!

BOTTOM LINE: Have a GOOD ATTITUDE about your hair take care of it, baby it, and you’ll find that you’ll be out of that FALLING OUT Zone shortly! Today’s hairstyles ARE more relaxed, and with the right cut, you’ll look just as glamorous as a celebrity! Don’t despair. Just know that we’re NOT a group of baldies!!!

Eating Wisely and Weight Loss

Writen by Paul Jerard

Please bear in mind that I am not a dietician, or a physician, and my opinions are those of a Yoga teacher, personal fitness trainer, and life-long student of Ayurveda. Always consult your family physician before changing your diet.

It may be generally agreed that eating wisely and weight loss do not often agree. Just look back that the parade of “fad diets” that didn’t seem to work over the long term and, in retrospect, were not wise from the onset.

This article will be a “union” of ideas from Ayurvedic principles, modern fitness concepts, and overall strategies for better health.

It goes without saying that a vegetarian diet is healthy. Only a decade ago, there were many reservations, among local physicians in New England, in regard to this concept. How rapidly knowledge, insight, and opinions change.

Marie, my wife, exposed me to the vegetarian diet. Before that, I ate what is now called the “Mediterranean Diet.” The diet I eat, to this day, is a combination of the two. The combination of these two, “classic” diets, are easy for me to live with and it is not an effort, at all, for me.

That is the biggest hurdle for most people. Many of us take on a radical dieting change that we cannot live with. Most of us can afford to make a few small changes at a time, instead of changing everything at once – unless you are dieting under the guidance of your doctor or dietician.

Therefore, I propose a few small changes to your eating habits that will make sense. You do not have to change them all at one time.

Sit down and focus on eating your meal.

Avoid television, reading, heated conversations, etc.

Thoroughly chew your food at a slow pace and do not put more food in your mouth until you have swallowed the previous bite.

Be aware of how hungry you are before your meal.

Try to avoid too much time between meals, as this leads to over consumption and your stomach should never be more than three quarters full, after a meal.

Exercise tip: Some of you practice Yoga and understand the many benefits of Sun Salutations, but have you ever tried weight resistance?

Strength training increases energy expenditure during a weight resistance training session. The high intensity of strength training indicates a high utilization of carbohydrates during a training session.

During the post-exercise recovery period, energy expenditure is elevated for a period ranging from two to fifteen hours(1). The increased energy demands are obtained by burning more calories, and a good portion of the calories are coming from fat stores.

Reference (1) – Melby C, Scholl C, Edwards G, Bullough R. Effect of acute resistance exercise on post exercise energy expenditure and resting metabolic rate. Journal of Applied Physiology 75(4): 1847-1853, 1993.

Even if you work every body part just once a week, this method of cross training will effectively burn calories. When you combine this with any aerobic activity, you have a powerful combination. Rowing and bicycling are good substitute forms of resistance too.

Strategies for results: Get help from a qualified Personal Trainer, Dietician, or a Life Coach. You could do it all yourself, but how much time do you have to “spin your wheels.” without any progress? These services exist for those who don’t want to waste time and want solutions now.

Aromatherapy Oil

Writen by Kent Pinkerton

The practice of aromatherapy is mainly based on the use of pure essential oils, which are plant-derivatives containing the essence or the aroma. Each aroma or oil has a specific effect on mind and body. Essential oils are used for both aromatherapy and massage. Since different types of oils have different effects on mind and body, one may be mixed with two or more to develop a special fragrance for a special purpose.

The production of essential oils is an intricate and a delicate process. To produce a small bottle of an essential oil, many hundred kilograms of the parent plant or flower are needed. For example 2000 kilograms of rose petals may be needed to produce a liter of its essential oil.

Currently there is much demand for pure essential oils. Purity may come from a number of factors including the manner in which the parent plant has been cultivated. Organic and non-organic essential oils are found in the markets. Organic essential oils come from plants cultivated without use of pesticides, herbicides, irradiation, or any form of unnatural treatment. Non-organic oils come from plants that have passed through all these. There is all likelihood that these will contain toxic and unnatural substances that one may be allergic to, or which may do more harm than good to the user. There is nothing as good as using a 100% pure essential oil. Since excessive use of essential oils can be dangerous and since they are very concentrated, these are diluted at the time of use by another oil, which is called carrier oil. Almond oil, jajoba oil, apricot Oil, and olive oil etc are all carrier oils. Be it an essential oil or a carrier oil, they should be stored in a cool dark place on account of their volatile nature and sensitivity to ultra violet light.

does the skin tighten after liposuction

Does the Skin Tighten after Liposuction?

Writen by Robbie Darmona

Whether your skin will tighten after you undergo a liposuction procedure, depends on many factors. The first one is your individual skin elasticity. The skin types are different in different people. Your skin may be elastic and easily recoverable. It may as well be loose and hard to reach its previous tautness.

The second factor depends on the type of liposuction procedure that you choose. There are special liposuction procedures which add for the better recovery of the skin after the operation itself. They are basically known as superficial liposuction procedures. Superficial liposuction treats the skin after the fat reduction operation has taken place. There are two types of superficial liposuction. The first one is skin excision. This includes cutting of small amounts of the skin to reduce slacking. Some surgeons may even put their patients on a compression garment: a special garment, which helps the skin to retain its elasticity. The other procedure is done by using a laser. Loose skin is treated inside with lasers, to reduce looseness. These both procedures add to the far-reaching effect of superficial liposuction. It is highly acknowledged as helpful supplemental operation after the main liposuction is carried out.

The third factor depends basically on the preparation of your body system. If you do regular exercise before the operation, your skin will have more elasticity to recover after the fat reduction. That is why extremely obese patients are required to take on a diet and exercise several months before the operation itself. This can be done in a hospital, under the supervision of a physician, for acquiring better results. Another thing is that the liposuction procedure cannot remove fats more than 5 liters, even with extreme obesity.

If you plan to undergo a slow weight loss, that is the perfect scheme to use in a liposuction operation. You need to have patience, and keep your diet as well as exercise on a regular basis, to avoid having problems with skin looseness after the operation.

There are three areas, which are extremely susceptible to skin looseness after effects.

1) The Neck Area. It is called submentum, or under skin, fat removal. Skin tightening in this area is very common and superficial liposuction is largely used. Skin excision comprises small amount of skin though, as this operation does not leave many visible defects on the neck, except if it had been extremely obese before the operation took place.

2) The Arm Liposuction. The skin on the back of the arm does not tighten very easily, that’s why superficial liposuction is largely used. It is necessary with older patients because if the lack of collagen in their back arms. Brachioplasty is the only procedure that deals successfully with reducing the skin looseness. It is done by making large incisions on the underside area of the arm. It comprises excising the redundant tissue and pulling the flaps together. Brachioplasty, though, involves large risk of lymphedema. It is because the ductwork of the lymphatic system is largely removed by the deep incisions.

3) Abdominal Liposuction. Lax skin on the lateral side of the abdomen is largely removed using superficial operations. But large skin looseness and abdominal muscle tightness should be operated using a special technique called abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck. If you would like to know more about your options in abdominoplasty, see also our sister site.

Hairy Backed Beast Transformed with Laser Hair Removal

Writen by Matt Hudson

Times have changed and fashions change, what was once considered a sign of raw manliness is now considered by some to be an unwanted accessory to the skin. We are of course talking about body hair on men.

For the metrosexual man, laser hair removal seems to have become increasingly fashionable as a hair removal method to get that “dolphin smooth” look as I term it. You know what it is like if you have ever touched this marine creature; it’s that squeaky rubbery perfectly hairless physique that can be truly breathtaking to sight and touch.

Well hairy backs may be all well and good for some guys and their partners, for some who aren’t as comfortable with it; there is now a permanent hair removal solution to the problem… laser hair removal. It works by basically frying hair follicles in the skin by targeting them with selected types of laser light, it can provide a real solution to the constant human problem of excessive unwanted hair on the body.

To brutally honest, laser hair removal is not cheap, nor should it be considering it is a cutting edge technology for hair removal. If you want the cheapest far from cutting edge method you could stick with a razor… (Excuse the pun). Hair removal lasers are not cheap to purchase and operate, and take a skilled practitioner, so you should be prepared and willing to pay the price to use it. The tremendous upside of it though, is that it is truly a way to dramatically reduce unwanted hair and prevent it from returning, and there is no way waxing or shaving can do that.

Laser back hair removal is obviously going to be expensive, as it is pretty much the largest surface on the body and laser hair removal clinics charge by the amount of area that needs to be treated. Also be aware that virtually all parts of the body will require multiple treatments with the hair removal laser, especially areas of the body with stubborn hairs like on the shoulders and backs of some men.

Probably the best news about hair removal laser treatments is that they work best on men with the darkest hair and reasonably light skin tone, which of course is the most noticeably hairy combination to the outward observer because of the contrast. Those with other skin types and hair colour combinations can also benefit greatly from laser hair removal treatments, as there are different laser systems used to cater for a wide variety of hair/ skin combinations.

If you are the generously hairy type and you are ready to consider getting back hair removal with laser treatment, do some searching and track down a website with more information or a laser hair removal clinic near you and you can look forward to being squeaky smooth and free of back hair.

Clear Your Acne – 3 Simple Steps to Healthy Radiant Skin in Less Than a Week

Writen by Seppo Puusa

The key thing to understand is that acne is not a disease or illness itself, but merely a reflection of the condition your body is in. It’s a signal that something is wrong with your body. Thus to cure your acne you have to address its cause.

Detailed explanation of the cause of acne is beyond the scope of this article. But in a nutshell your body is out of balance. Improper diet, pollution, chemicals in food, pharmaceutical drugs, etc have exposed your body to more toxins that it can handle.

Step 1 – detoxify

The first step to correct the situation is to help your body to get rid of the toxins that are causing your acne in the first place.

The good thing is that your body does this automatically – once you step out of the way. As a double-whammy benefit your body will also clear your acne. For your body to do its job you have to give it sufficient rest and eliminate all harmful substances from your diet for a period of 3 to 7 days. The most effective ways to do this are fasting or so-called detox-diets.

Step 2 – topical treatment

While detoxing, you can help your body with topical treatments. Your skin is one of the main organs for eliminating toxins from your body. Different topical treatments help to keep the pores in your skin open and toxins to leave your body faster. Topical treatments can also kill the bacteria on your skin that lead to acne.

Try to avoid chemicals that dry your skin and just block the pores even further. Instead, try herbal steam baths or skin brushing. Both are excellent ways to help your skin to expel toxins. Sauna can also help you. To kill the bacteria try some herbal lotions from your health shop. Topical treatments are only complimentary to detoxing. So don’t go overboard here.

Step 3 – towards healthier lifestyle

The last thing you should do is to gradually change your lifestyle towards a healthier one. Detoxing and topical treatments will clear your acne. The purpose of this last step is to keep acne from coming back. You should gradually work to eliminate unhealthy substances from your life. Some examples of things you should avoid are: animal flesh, dairy products, caffeine, alcohol, tobacco and sugar.

It’s important to remember that it takes time to change your lifestyle. So go easy on this one and work to eliminate one substance at a time.

Benefits of a Portable Toilet in Disaster Situation, Hurricanes and Floods

Writen by Jeff Luckey

Disasters like hurricanes and floods can occur at anytime and cause havoc to life and property. The very first casualty of such a situation is outbreak of epidemics due to lack of adequate and clean sanitation facilities. Different deadly diseases like Cholera, Hepatitis A, and Cryptosporidiosis raise their ugly head. All these diseases occur due to contaminated water and contact with feces or vomit. The answer to all such concerns lies in a portable toilet.

What are Portable Toilets?

A Portable toilet is a modern and self-contained plastic outhouse. It is made of plastic and available in many different colors. It is normally three feet by seven feet long and has enough space for a single occupant. A portable toilet houses a seated toilet and a urinal.

Ventilation is through the top and has a stovepipe vent for the holding tank. You can lock the door. The weight of the disinfectant liquid at the bottom of the holding tank keeps the toilet in an upright position. Such portable toilets are in use at many social gatherings and construction sites too. Newer models sport additional facilities like antibacterial hand gel dispensers and toilet papers.

How does it function?

Portable sanitation industry is now a booming business with annual turnover of more than 1.5 million dollars. Presently there are more than 1,400,000 portable restrooms with a service fleet of more than 9,400 trucks.

You need toilet units, service personnel like salespeople, technicians, and drivers, service vehicles, and a central headquarters to coordinate all sanitation functions. Such sanitation headquarters need connection to a sanitary sewer system for easy disposal of the effluents. Normally, official disposal sites are in vicinity of such headquarters.

Service personnel normally service forty to fifty toilet units each day. The service truck has a pump and a large tank. There are two compartments in the tank. One of them receives the effluent disposal and the other has fresh substances for cleaning the toilet units. Service personnel scrub clean the interior of the portable toilet with brushes and then towel dry it. They also look into any minor repairs, as necessary. They also replenish all toilet tissue stocks.

Benefits of Portable Toilets

* Portable toilets pose their greatest benefit in their portability. Companies renting out portable toilets assure guarantee of their cleanliness. These companies conduct weekly cleaning sessions by draining, cleaning, disinfecting, and deodorizing the toilets. A pickup truck can haul a portable toilet.

* Such toilets do not clog or overflow, as they do not function with the plumbing feature. This helps develop good sanitation facilities at work sites or even in permanent settlement areas. Better sanitation obviously leads to better environment and therefore better living conditions too.

* Parks and recreational areas can house such portable toilets, as these places do not normally have sewer connected sanitation facilities.

* Portable toilets are best for providing temporary sanitation during natural disasters liker hurricanes, floods, fires, and earthquakes.

* Portable toilets at construction sites help keep toilets at nearby places. This saves time spent on going to far-off distances to attend to nature’s calls. You save time and labor costs. Besides, outdoor workers develop a higher morale too.

* Providing clean sanitation facilities makes you rank high among environmentalists, health authorities, OSHA inspectors, and garners overall support and goodwill from the public. It also promotes goodwill and organizes support from relevant quarters.
