Adults and ADHD: How Common is It?

Writen by Dylan Miles

ADHD has become more widely known as a children’s disorder, but it is also something adults have to contend with. Read more about it here.

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder or ADHD is usually diagnosed in children, thought it can often continue on into adulthood. In recent years, adult ADHD has become quite common, though it manifests slightly different symptoms than it normally does in children.

Adult ADHD is usually diagnosed in adults who exhibit inattentiveness in their personal relationships at work and at home with their family. Adult sufferers often find it difficult to sustain a job and a relationship.

Recognizing ADHD in adults

In general, adult sufferers tend to experience problems at work, which usually results in frequent job changes. Because of these problems they tend to have a lower socioeconomic status, by virtue of being unable to sustain a job long-term, which is a primary requirement of career development.

Adult sufferers of ADHD usually have a history of failure in professional and personal endeavors, and end up in lower-level jobs that don’t require organizational skills, and have less responsibility.

Adults with ADHD tend to find it difficult to support themselves, and their families, which often results in the breakdown of the family unit. Adults suffering from ADHD often have a history of multiple relationships and marriages.

Diagnosing ADHD in adults

No one should take it upon themselves to diagnose a friend or self-diagnose. This can lead to misunderstanding. But the more you know about an illness, the quicker you can suggest to a friend to get help. Or if you recognise symptoms in yourself, awareness can help you seek the proper help.

ADHD sufferers fall into three types:

1. The inattentive type
2. The hyperactive and impulsive type
3. A combination of types 1 and 2.

The above types of symptoms generally need to be present for at least six months, and a person must be experiencing difficulties in normal social functioning. If you recognize any of these types, then seek professional help immediately.

Carpal Tunnel and Tendinitis Can Be Avoided if Proper Ergonomic Positioning is Practiced

Writen by Amy Lieberfarb

My wrist and arm hurt so bad, I can’t even type a simple e-mail anymore. This is a complaint that doctors are hearing more often as a common patient problem, usually related to a workplace injury. Computer programmers, hairstylists, prep cooks and even your average office employee are all at risk for injuries just stemming from their everyday work tasks.

Carpal tunnel, tendinitis and nerve disorder injuries from improper positioning of the workstation or from a task requiring repetitive motion for extended periods are growing in number. People are also working longer hours without proper seating or equipment for the task.

Carpal Tunnel, Tendinitis as well as many other minor injuries are now making the way to the workers compensation claim arena on a large scale. The rising number of claims being filed for such injuries is thought to be due to the improper positioning of employee workstations and the lack of employee training in proper practices for good body health. Most workers spend a considerable amount of time in their workstation, proper positioning is critical to good body health and employee productivity.

When workstations are designed with ergonomics in mind, it can help in both the prevention of injuries and in aiding employee productivity. A comfortable employee is a much more productive employee. Many ergonomic devices have been invented to help with the prevention and treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome. Carpal tunnel syndrome affects a person’s wrist and fingers with many different levels of seriousness and can progress quite quickly to a serious problem. Affecting both typing skills, mouse use and everyday tasks, such as phone use, carpal tunnel can easily put an employee on full leave, due to their inability to complete tasks as needed.

Carpal tunnel can be treated in many different ways and is said to be completely correctable with surgery, with many patients experiencing a full recovery after going under the knife. Braces can also be worn to help keep the wrist stabilized and ease the pain experienced with movement.

Some massage therapists are known to treat and help to alleviate carpal tunnel as well as tendinitis through an array of massage treatments. Tendinitis and carpal tunnel are treated with emphasis on the spine and neck area to help with the pinched nerves and muscles that helped to cause the problem in massage therapy.

Proper ergonomic positioning of the body while sitting and keeping the desk, keyboard and mouse at the correct height is key to prevention of injury and can save workers and employers a lot of hassle, time and money. Carpal Tunnel and tendinitis are problems more widely recognized by most companies as an important issues for overall employee health and hopefully continues to be. With education, avoiding a ton of hassle for both the employees and employers is simple.

Close Kept Secrets to Weight Loss Lesson #22

Writen by Tami Close

Have you had an amazing transformation of self? Are you learning that your power lies in your thoughts? Remember whatever you think about you manifest so if you’ve manifested frustration, what have your thoughts been about? Turn your attention on what you do want and hold that attention and you will begin to vibrate there.

If you desire to feel vibrant and healthy and rid yourself of the excess weight, then focus on those things that are going to give you the outcome that you want. Surround yourself with the conditions and the people which will help you move towards your goal. If you find yourself spending time with people who aren’t health conscious and you end up slipping into what you don’t want, then what is the simple answer?

What I have found is that until you can be strong enough in your own sense of who you are, it’s important that you not be around people who don’t subscribe to a healthy lifestyleor at least limit your exposure. Working on yourself with the daily work will be the key factor in helping you gain your power back so that you can be around people and not be affected by what they eat. In addition, you won’t be affected by their negative energy because you’re going to be vibrating at such a higher level.

Doing the daily work is crucial to your success to keep your thoughts vibrating at a higher level and sustaining that positive energy. You owe it to yourself to be empowered so that you take responsibility for your own health and well-being.

Have you ever said to yourself, “That person makes me so mad!” When you do this, you are giving your power to that person and thus are feeling the effects of that negative emotion in every part of your body. In some ways you keep telling yourself that you’ll wait until all the mean people leave the earth, then you’ll have peace. Guess what? It doesn’t work that way. Peace comes with practice in loving yourself enough then you’re not bothered by what people do or say. It’s simple but it does take daily practice because struggle has been our middle name. Ready to change your middle name?

Okay, I’ll admit that when I’m around negative people, I will revert to seven year old Tami who secretly sticks her tongue out, makes faces at them or desperately wants to moon them. Oh, that inner child that will get the best of me sometimes. I have to go sit in a corner and do some of my own daily work.

Now, commit to the daily focus on you. Your power lies within the daily work. Spend time with you today, okay?

Who is the most important person in the world? YOU! Put yourself first and watch everything that is wonderful flow to you, not away from you. You don’t want to have to run after anything. Let it come to you. Let it flow, baby, flow!

Redux Lawyer Discusses Fen-Phen Fad

Writen by Anna Henningsgaard

In the early nineties, Redux was the original miracle diet pill. A predecessor to fenphen, Redux was just the “fen”, fenfluramine in the form dexfenfluramine. The drug increased the production of seratonin, which gave the brain feelings of satiety, or fullness. Overweight people felt a great responsibility lifted from their shoulders. In Redux, the drug industry promised a thin, healthy body without painful exercise or unpleasant diet restrictions! Within three months, doctors were writing 85,000 prescriptions for Redux every week.

We now know how this story ends. Like most miracle drugs, Redux was too good to be true. The increase of seratonin caused people using Redux to be moody and disconsolate. Soon the fenfluramine cocktail drug fenphen replaced Redux on the shelves. This is not the end of the story, however. Soon after thousands of Americans had swallowed fenphen pills, the mortality reports began coming in.

Redux and fenphen work the same way, by flooding the brain with chemicals that trigger that full feeling. Because the patient feels full, they do not feel the need to eat. The drug imparts a comfortable form of anorexia. While this is unhealthy in and of itself, denying the patient essential nutrients, it was not the worst aspect of the drug. The drug did not simply elevate seratonin levels in the brain, it flooded the whole blood stream with seratonin. When this chemical reached the heart it weakened the heart valves, causing massive heart valve disease in people using either fenfluramine drug, Redux or fenphen.

When this deadly side effect became known the drugs were immediately recalled, but the damage was already done. Thousands of people developed heart disease, underwent surgery, or died as a result of their exposure to the chemical. Those patients who did not change their habits to include healthy lifestyle choices like exercise and diet restrictions gained the weight back. Nothing very good came of America’s brief affair with fenfluramine.

People are still suffering from heart disease as a result of this drug. If you or someone you know is a victim, contact a lawyer and discuss your circumstances. The drug companies should repay you for your pain and medical costs. Hopefully America will not simply forget this brief affair with fenfluramine and be more careful about the pills we swallow so carelessly.

Best Beauty Tips For A Healthy And Natural Look

Writen by David Maillie

‘Beauty is skin deep’, so goes the good old saying. But, that does not rob the charm of enhancing your looks. So, hey there, beauty conscious, there’s just no harm in having some of the best beauty tips up your sleeves. For looking and feeling beautiful is a sign of health and happiness. And in an age where looking good spells confidence and success, it’s vital that you have the best beauty tips handy.

Pamper Your Body

The first secret to true beauty is a natural body glow. Try a refreshing exfoliate with a homemade mix of olive oil, sea salt or sugar. Dry brushing your body, preferably with a natural bristle brush before a bath. It helps to stimulate the glands.

A Little Thought for your Eyes, Hands and Feet

- Moisturise your hands and feet regularly. Don’t forget to file your nails and apply nail polish.

- Free your eyes of the tired look simply with a spoon. Keep it in the fridge and apply to the eyelids.

- Once you have ensured a healthy body, be in fashion with the best make-up tips.

Magic of Natural Make-Up

The secret of smart make-up is to keep it natural. But often unhygienic and wrong use of make-up causes harm. Here are the best beauty tips to avoid a make-up mess:

- Eye care: To ensure healthy eyes change your mascara every three months, eye shadows every six to twelve months and sharpen your eye pencil regularly

- Mascara basics: To avoid mascara smudging, apply a thin layer to the top lashes only and then use an eyelash brush

- Natural glow: A gel blush or cream gives a more natural look than a powder

- Brow beauty: For a natural look, eyebrows must not look pencil thin. Use a definer for extra volume.

- Eyeliner tips: Use liquid liner instead of a pencil, to avoid smudging in the crease of the lid

- Foundation fashion: While choosing a concealer or foundation, check the shade on the palm side of your wrist. It tells whether the shade would look natural on you.

Haute Hair Tips

A homemade hair pack is better than shampooing. Natural stuff like apple cider vinegar keeps shampoo toxins at bay. The right hairdo makes the correct fashion statement. Always discuss your face shape with your hairdresser, to decide on a style

Do’s ‘N’ Don’ts

Common beauty blunders arise from ignorance. Here are the best beauty tips to be better informed:

- Avoid soap and switch to natural cleansers
– Wash your face often
– Use an eye cream regularly
– Drink lots of water
– Never forget a sunscreen
– Use natural beauty packs

Mind Matters

Last but not the least; you just can’t glow unless its heart felt. So, the best beauty tips include doing something you enjoy whenever you can. Always take a break, chat with friends, forget your worries, set your mind free and just watch the wonders.

Fatty Liver Disease

Writen by Kevin Stith

Fatty liver is a condition in which fat accumulates in the liver cells. However simple fatty liver does not damage the liver. Fat accumulation in the liver can be caused by weight gain or diabetes mellitus. Fatty liver can occur with a lean diet and ailments such as tuberculosis and intestinal bypass surgery for obesity. It can also occur while certain drugs like corticosteroids. The condition is also caused by heavy alcohol use. A patient is diagnosed as having a fatty liver when fat makes up at least 10% of the liver.

Fatty food does not cause a fatty liver. It is a common condition that is seen in people who are overweight or suffer from diabetes. Explanations for a fatty liver include the transfer of fat from other parts of the body, or a spurt in the extraction of fat presented to the liver from the intestine. Another argument is that the fat accumulates because the liver is unable to change it into a form that can be removed.

Fatty liver is diagnosed by eliminating the chances of chronic liver disease, particularly from alcohol abuse. Images of the liver obtained through an ultrasound test, a CT scan or a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan can diagnose a fatty liver. In an ultrasound test, a fatty liver produces a bright image in a ripple pattern. A CT scan will show a picture in which the liver will appear less dense than normal.

The treatment of fatty liver is linked with the cause. A simple fatty liver does not need treatment, because it does not damage the liver cells. Overweight patients with fatty liver will have to reduce their weight. Control of diabetes also decreases the fat content in the liver.

Another condition that causes fat deposit in the liver is the nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). But, unlike a simple fatty liver, it causes damage to the liver cells. It is not linked to other causes of chronic liver disease, like hepatitis B and C viruses, autoimmune disorders, alcohol, drug toxicity, and the accumulation of copper (Wilson’s Disease) or iron (hemochromatosis).

How Enzymes, Lecithin, and Chlorophyll Reduce Acne

Writen by Rudy Silva

Systemic Enzymes

If you have scars or pockmarks that have recently occurred from acne, you may be able to clear them by using a product called Vitalzym.

You’re not going to hear this from your doctor or dermatologist, but systemic enzymes, such as serapeptase, which is found in Vitalzym, can remove excess fibrin, which makes up scar tissue that forms acne pockmarks.

Systemic enzymes have a different function from digestive enzymes. Systemic enzymes work in body organs, tissue, skin, and joints to remove excess fibrin, which accumulates in these areas. Systemic enzymes,

* Bring nutrient to damaged area

* Enhance wellness

* Help to speed repair of damage tissue

* Improves blood and lymphatic circulation

* Reduce inflammation

* Remove waste products

* Stimulate immune system

Digestive Enzymes

Digestive enzymes, however, are used to help you digest food that you eat. If you eat mostly processed foods, these foods don’t have digestive enzymes to help digest them selves. Your body has to pull them from deep within your body to digest food in your stomach or intestines.

Over many years of eating processed food instead of live food, like raw fruits and vegetables, your digestive enzyme supply will diminish and you will not digest food as good as when you were younger.

Supplementing your diet with digestive enzymes and taking them with every meal will insure that you digest your food properly. This will reduce the amount of undigested food that gets into the colon where toxic matter is formed. Also, this will minimize your chances of becoming constipated. Good digestion and colon function is necessary for preventing, clearing, or eliminating acne.

Lecithin

Lecithin is made from soybeans and is found in health food stores in yellow granules. It is an emulsifier, which is a substance that helps fats and nonfats to mixed and stay together without separating.

In the blood, lecithin keeps fats from forming large globes, which can create problems if your arteries are narrow. Lecithin also has many other benefits such as,

* Improves digestion and absorption of essential fatty acids

* Improves skin problems

* Improves memory

* Lowers cholesterol

Add 1-2 tablespoons of granules into your smoothies. Add one or two teaspoons to your soups or other liquid food. Sprinkle one teaspoon or more on your fresh salads.

Chlorophyll and lemon

Chlorophyll is one of the best ways to detoxify the colon fast. Your colon needs to be detoxified constantly to prevent toxins from getting into your blood and seeping into your facial skin where they can create acne. It also helps the skin keep healthy by acting as an

* antioxidant

* anti-inflammatory

* anti-microbial agent

* absorber of heavy metals in the colon

Here are some of the benefits you will get from drinking chlorophyll,

* Heals open wounds inside your body

* Increases re-growth of tissues

* Helps to heal sores in your mouth

* Acts as a antiseptic

* Destroys bacteria

* Brings more oxygen to your cells

* Give protection from low levels of radiation such as TV, computers, microwaves, and hospital equipment

* Reduces toxins in the colon and body

* Helps to purify the liver

* Helps sores heal faster

* Reduces pain from inflammation

Here’s how to prepare it first thing in the morning,

* Place 2-3 tablespoon of plain liquid chlorophyll in an 8 oz glass

* Squeeze the juice of one whole lemon into the glass

* Add distilled water to fill the 8 oz glass.

The reason I add one lemon to this drink is to give this drink some flavor. I have a hard time just drinking chlorophyll and water. It has a bland taste. You may try adding the chlorophyll to some other drink if you like.

You cannot overdose on chlorophyll liquid that is why I sometimes drink 2 ounces plus the juice of one lemon in an 8 oz glass of water.

Eating Disorders And How To Treat Them

Writen by Robert Thatcher

Many people are having problems with their weight. These weight problems are the results of a person’s eating habits. In the United States, there are about 50 million of Americans are enroll weight loss programs. However, there are also people who wishes that they would have a lesser weight and resulted to suffering from eating disorders.

Eating disorders may be categorized as a psychiatric problem. Although many experts say that obesity is not truly a psychiatric problem, they consider that the state of being obese is also a form of eating disorders. Some people who are trying to lose weight may lead to the improper obsession of thinking of a person that his dieting becomes abnormal.

Another form of eating disorder is the anorexia nervosa. This form of eating disorder may happen to those people who may have a normal or a little above the average weight. These people think that their body is always overweight. This illness may begin to those who that have continuous diet regimens and eventually led to restraining the person’s balanced eating.

Anorexia nervosa can be identified to most women that are teenagers and are in their early adult stages. Although it is not common to males and to older adults, it can also occur to these types of people. The known classic dieters do not eat any food in a day which lead them to starvation. The self-starvation of a person is the point where he suppresses hunger sensations, which may lead an individual to become skeletal in appearance. These individuals are considered anorexic by type because they suffer from phobia on gaining weight.

Bulimia can be truly associated to many dieters especially to those individuals aged 17 to 25 years old. The process of bingeing and purging of most bulimics can make an individual addicted on what he has started in his diet regimen. Most of the time a person can no longer control the binge and spurge cycle that and led a person to be underweight and or even obese. However, most bulimics appear to be normal and have a normal body weight. Most of the time, the process in which they do their dieting is kept to themselves because most bulimics are shameful of their activities of bingeing and purging.

There are side effects an individual may suffer from for being bulimic especially for women that are actively in this process of dieting. An irregular menstrual cycle may occur to some women and the decrease of sexual interest may be experienced. Most bulimics have disturbing behavior on whatever things they would like to do. There are instances where bulimics have tendencies to be drug addicts and alcoholic. Some of which have records of shoplifting and other cases that are associated in such acts.

There are some different approaches on how to treat these forms of disorders. These ways may help bring back the proper eating and correct way to have a balanced diet. A well-known stage for bulimics could return the right eating pattern by not practicing the activity of bingeing and purging. They are able to control the incorrect dieting behavior on the diet regimen.

A consultative approach that would be advisable to those bulimics and anorexic is the therapy program. Many of the patients have been found to cooperate well and let themselves to be educated in psycho educational programs that will give them the information on the illness.

Discount Treadmills – Are They Really a Deal

Writen by Fred Waters

We all want to save money and buy at a discount. When it comes to treadmills getting the best value is particularly important when you consider the price. A treadmill can cost a small fortune. And if you are not sure it won’t end up as an expensive clothes hanger, you want to be cautious on how much you spend.

Whether you buy online or in a retail store, you’ll find just about any treadmill is marked down significantly from its list price. List prices have no basis in reality of the true value of the treadmill. It is no different than other products like cars, jewelry, furniture, etc. The problem becomes, what is the real value, and how does that compare to the discount price.

Having worked in the treadmill business for a number of years I know how companies manipulate the prices to give the illusion of value. You’ll find some retailers suggesting their prices are reduced as much as 60%. That is absurd.

So how do you determine the true value of a treadmill, regardless of the discount price? By comparison shopping. There are three important factors to consider when buying a treadmill:

  • Treadmill Features and components
  • Warranty for both parts and service
  • Company reputation
  • Features and Components

    Treadmills have a number of features and components that are found on models. Examples are the motor, deck, running service, incline, programs, console and rollers. By comparing the various components and features you can determine how one model compares to another.

    For example, you may find a treadmill selling for $1,000 that has a 18″x 52″ running surface,

    Achieve that Perfect Whiter Brighter Hollywood Smile!

    Writen by Marc Lindsay

    So you are looking in the mirror this morning and what did you see?? Was it white bright beautiful teeth, or like the best part of the population were they looking a little dull?

    Like most things in life teeth gradually fade to yellow in color. If you are an avid coffee, tea or red wine drinker then this will accelerate the process and may also stain your teeth.

    It seems that almost every cosmetic company has tried to monopolize this industry with everything from whitening toothpaste to whitening strips. But there are only really two main options.

    Take-home whitening systems using trays and whitening gel or in-office, for immediate whitening results using a light activated gel to brighten teeth.

    How are the procedures used?

    Take Home whitening kits

    Take-home whitening has become wildly popular in recent times due to its flexibility and lower cost to in-house teeth whitening. The trade off is that it takes slightly longer to achieve the desired results (anywhere from 3 days to 2 weeks)

    This is accomplished by using a custom-made tray that is then layered with a prescription whitening gel 30mins to several hours at a time (dependent on how sensitive your teeth are).

    Your dentist will make an appointment with you to take a custom impression which will then be used as a mold to make custom trays.

    Once the whitening trays are ready you will have another appointment with your dentist where he will test them for a proper fit. Also the dentist will show the patient how to use the trays in conjunction with the whitening gel.

    The whitening trays are quite comfortable to wear and can easily be placed in before bedtime and taken out in the morning.

    Usually you will also be given a tooth mouse which you apply after using the trays to help alleviate sensitive teeth that some people get when using the gels.

    In-Office Whitening.

    There are several in-office whitening systems on the market but for the scope of this article we will only discuss Zoom Tooth Whitening

    The Zoom! Whitening Procedure

    The Zoom! Whitening procedure is simple and painless. It begins with a short preparation to isolate your lips and gums. The Zoom! Clinician then applies the proprietary Zoom! Whitening Gel, this is activated by a specially designed light. Teeth typically become at least six to ten shades whiter, sometimes more. A five-minute fluoride treatment competes the procedure. You’ll be amazed with the results. In most cases, teeth get even whiter the first few days after the procedure.

    How The Zoom! Works

    The Zoom! Light activated gel was developed after years of research by Discus Dental, the leaders in professional take-home tooth whitening. The gel is a scientifically formulated, pH balanced Hydrogen Peroxide that, when activated by the Zoom! Light, gently penetrates the teeth to remove deep stains and discoloration. With proper care and an occasional touch-up at home, your whiter smile will sparkle for years.

    Who is eligible for tooth whitening?

    Well that is just a matter of preference really, anyone who would like to whiten their teeth by up to ten shades. It is very common among wedding parties for nice white bright wedding photos. But it really does appeal to everyone.

    Cost

    The cost can vary from place to place but for take-home whitening this can be around $450 and in-house whitening using zoom can range from $500 – $1000 depending on the procedure used.

    There are many different ways to obtain that beautiful whiter smile but if you want to get the best value for your money visit your local dentist and ask about it.
