Find Out The Latest Methods Of Hair Loss Prevention

Writen by Peter Crump

Since baldness is hereditary, many people think that there are no methods of hair loss prevention available for them. According to geneticists, a male whose maternal grandfather was bald will more than likely carry the gene for hairloss as well. However, modern day science has developed ways of reversing the hair loss process, opening doors for many men and women to regain their full head of hair. The first and foremost method of hair loss prevention is to take care of your hair. The over use of hair dyes, curling irons and hair dryers is one of the leading causes of hair loss in both men and women.

New hair loss news will tell you that you should never color your hair more often than 6 to 8 weeks and for hair loss prevention, letting your hair turn naturally gray is the best thing you can do. Many women stretch the hair by braiding very tightly and this can lead to significant hairloss as well. Eating the right foods is something else you can do for hair loss prevention. Having enough calcium in your diet is very important to strengthen the hair follicles and roots in the scalp. Illnesses and taking antibiotics often causes hair loss, so keeping yourself in good physical condition enables you to counteract the effect that these have on your hair.

When you wash your hair, you should use a good shampoo and hair conditioner. Keep the split ends trimmed and avoid using hair dryers whenever possible. According to new hair loss news, wearing a cap for long periods of time also leads to hair loss.

If your hair loss is caused by a condition called androgenic alopecia, there are no hair loss prevention methods that you can use, because there is no cure for this condition. However, there are many new treatments that can help. New treatments such as Proscar and Rogaine have been getting a lot of attention in the news regarding hair loss. You have to get a prescription from the doctor for both of these and neither one of them are recommended for women. However, it is unlikely that either one of these will work for total baldness. They are generally successful in cases where some hair is left on the back and the sides of the head.

New hair loss news about hair transplants and hairloss prevention regale the results of this treatment with men, The results are not as promising for women and many women who have not been able to find a suitable hairloss prevention method turn to wigs they can style so that they look perfectly natural. If you are starting to lose your hair and there is no medical reason, don’t despair. You don’t have to start worrying about putting sunscreen on your head because there are solutions out there.

Hair loss prevention is not necessarily about expense, it can also be simple things.

Bodybuilding on a Budget – It Doesn’t Have to Put Your Wallet in a Wheelchair

Writen by Marc David

As you probably remember the last time you looked at a proposed grocery list or visited the nearest supplement store, you realized you needed to take out an equity loan first in order to get your month’s supply of food and supplements.

Believe me

I’ve had my fair share of large bills especially when I’m trying to bulk up and gain weight.

Am I right about this so far?

Don’t’ worry there are some really overlooked and rather inexpensive methods to get all the food you need without breaking the bank. But I have an even better idea let me just start off with a quick list of foods that you can find at most grocery stories and warehouse locations that are cheap and are excellent sources of protein, carbohydrates and fats.

Low Cost Bodybuilding Foods (no particular order):

1. Tuna
2. Nuts
3. Olive Oil
4. Whey Protein Concentrate, in bulk
5. Pasta
6. Chicken legs
7. Beans

Of course you’ll want to get servings of fruits and veggies but normally it’s the other foods that are expensive in bulk. With just the above foods, you can get many of them in bulk or for discounts and have plenty of wholesome foods for your bulking, cutting and bodybuilding endeavors.

By now, you’re probably wondering

Okay, that’s a nice list of general foods I can use but I am taking some supplements. And they aren’t so cheap. I’d like to try everything I see in the latest muscle magazines but I really only have time for what works. Where’s the cheap list of supplements?

Inexpensive (best bang for your buck) supplements:

1. Multi-vitamin
2. Fish oil
3. Whey concentrate
4. Dextrose
5. Creatine Monohydrate

Fact is

I try a lot of supplements myself. I’m curious. I want to know what works and sometimes I stumble across something that is worth it. But the above list is the basic supplement list that I always return to no matter what. It’s part of the vitamin closet in the kitchen. If I have no time, no money or no desire to try anything new, I know that above is the only stash I need to make any gains I’ll need.

So let me summarize and review

Bodybuilding on budget is real. If you look for specific foods that are great sources of protein, carbs and healthy fats and mix and match, you have a really well rounded selection to make many meals. No matter if you are on a bulk phase, cutting phase or just want to eat healthy, it doesn’t have to be the most expensive things you’ve ever done.

Acidophilus: What Good Can Be Found in Bacteria?

Writen by Hector Milla

Acidophilus are made as drug supplements. It is available in different forms such as pills, granule or powdered formulations, suppository, liquid formulation, douche and capsules. Some dairy products contain acidophilus as well.

Current Western medicine has a different use for Acidophilus. Traditionally and culturally, it is used as herbal supplements. However, you need to consult a primary health care worker if you will be using this. You should ask professional advises first if you are going to take them as a supplement. Even though they are basically harmless, some people have a different reaction with the said bacteria.

It also helps treat different digestive disorders. It gives relief to the people that suffer from IBS or irritable bowel syndrome. It controls diarrhea. It relieves flatulence and decreases gas in the stomach as well. It is a good treatment for vaginal infections and urinary tract infections. It can also be used to cure bad breath problems.

Pregnant and breast feeding mothers are not allowed to take Acidophilus without the doctor’s permission. People with sensitivity to drugs must also consult to experts first before taking the drug. Other than this, there are no noted restrictions.

This bacterium is of great help to human beings. They can treat illnesses naturally as they are normally present in our bodies.

Insomnia – A Frustrating Sleep Disorder!

Writen by Wendy Owen

What are the various causes of insomnia?

Insomnia is a sleep disorder defined as the inability to sleep satisfactorily or to have any sleep at all. It is characterized by restlessness, sleep interruptions, a decreased in normal sleeping time, or, at worst, complete wakefulness.

Aside from the frustration that insomnia can cause its sufferers, this sleep disorder causes those afflicted to lack enthusiasm and energy, have memory and concentration problems, feel lethargic, frustrated and sleepy during the day. Worst case scenarios that may be brought on by insomnia are being prone to accidents, reduced work productivity and the aggravation of psychological and medical conditions.

So what exactly are the culprits that make insomnia such a frustrating sleeping problem?

1. Emotional Distress

Especially when it is from internalised anxiety, anger, worry or stress. These emotional problems frequently trigger insomnia

2. Substance Abuse

Drinking too much coffee, tea, colas or other “energy-upper drinks” is known to cause insomnia. Caffeine from these drinks is the main reason. Smokers can also be easy victims of insomnia because of the nicotine that cigarettes contain. Alcohol and certain medications can also make us prone to becoming insomniacs. Many people believe that alcohol, can make us feel drowsy. But when the alcohol gets metabolised in the system it can cause us to wake up suddenly in the early hours of the morning.

3. Circadian Disturbance.

Our “body clock” or circadian rhythm when altered, can seriously affect our ability to enjoy healthy sleep. This body clock disturbance can be caused by an irregular sleep schedule because of jet lag, shift work, too many naps or even staying up past our normal bedtime. Students are particularly at risk when staying up late studying for exams.

4. Environmental Factors

Extreme temperatures can disrupt one’s sleeping patterns. Noise and bright lights can have the same effect. An uncomfortable bed or pillow can affect our quality of sleep too. Sleeping in an unfamiliar place such as a hotel can cause temporary insomnia.

5. Health Problems

Health disorders such as diabetes, heart problems, hyperthyroidism, ulcers, and Parkinson’s Disease may also cause insomnia. Asthma may also be one health problem that makes us prone to insomnia because of an asthmatic’s shortness of breath. Frequent urination, heartburn, and chronic pain from leg cramps, tooth ache and arthritis can also cause insomnia.

Psychiatric conditions such as schizophrenia and depression are also possible reasons for insomnia. Snoring with prolonged pauses in breathing while at sleep, also known as sleep apnea can also cause restless sleep. Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) causes periodic leg movements during sleep in which the muscles to twitch excessively is one underlying cause of insomnia. Another cause is narcolepsy which is a tendency to fall asleep during the day.

6. Pre-bedtime Activities

Engaging in vigorous activities such as exercise just before bedtime can cause problems falling asleep. Very gentle exercise such as stretching, yoga or qigong may help however as it enables us to reduce stress. Consuming large meals when one is just about to sleep can also cause us to experience insomnia. This is because our metabolism is raised, prompting us to stay awake.

Do any of the above apply to you? Paying attention to these causes of insomnia and doing what we can to address them may help us to break the vicious cycle and enjoy restful sleep once again.

HGH: Finding The Fountain Of Youth

Writen by Ty Gonzales

HGH is medically accepted acronym for Human Growth Hormones. Before we could explain what it is, we should first define what hormones are.

A hormone is “any of a number of substances which are secreted into the bloodstream by endocrine glands and stimulate particular organs or tissues.” Different kinds of hormones produce different effects. Some are boosters for the bodies’ regular functions. Some strengthen our immunity systems. Some even define the shape and size of our bodies.

One of the noteworthy hormones that our bodies produce is HGH. HGH has acquired much prominence in recent years because of its anti-aging properties that make the body more resistant against the wear and tear of its years.

It is important to mention that HGH is produced by the pituitary gland, and such production never ceases. However, the production of HGH does slow down as we get older, hence developing a deficiency for the same in our latter years. It’s quite ironic to think that something which is supposed to ward off the effects of age slowly wanes as we approach the twilight of our lives.

The decreased HGH level in our bodies is tagged by some professionals as one of the leading causes for illnesses and ailments associated with old age. This seems to be the most logical theory, and any contrary condition can be attributed to the varying HGH production rates among people who are similarly situated, despite the fact that there is no escaping the expected reduction of HGH produced by our bodies.

If HGH production does not slow down, then we will have a perpetual fountain of youth to serve us in good stead! This, however, is contrary to our constitutional makeup. That HGH production decelerates as the years go by is pretty much a universal fact.

Thankfully, HGH supplements have been introduced to the market to help us recapture the vigor of our youth. Medical professionals spent years in developing HGH supplements that would aid our pituitary gland in pumping out the much desired hormone to help us cope up with the symptoms of old age. We are fortunate to be living in an age where HGH supplements are readily available in the market, both offline and online.

If you wish to enjoy your life to the fullest without having to worry about the perils of your age, then you owe it to yourself to try HGH supplements. Many people testify to the beneficial effects of this hormonal complement and how it has profoundly improved their lives and their outlook for the future.

Ty Gonzales used to suffer from midlife crisis, until he unearthed the secret to unceasing vigor. Read his story at http://www.hghcentral.blogspot.com.

Alzheimer’s Disease And The Care Provider

Writen by William Riopelle

Alzheimer’s Disease is somewhat different from many of the other neurological diseases. Alzheimer’s disease is the only pathological source that can short-circuit, and wreak havoc not only on the victim, but also affect the care giver in ways I’ve not seen in any other disease.

In fact, one could say the way Alzheimer’s Disease develops and affects the victim is unique. This unique road leads to stresses and strains on the care giver that are also unique. Assistance and resources for the care giver is just as important as getting medical attention for the patient.

Who Is The Care Giver?

Most often the care giver is the spouse, or family of the victim. In this case, the care giver not only cares for, but loves the victim very much. The care giver can be someone who sits or stays with the patient for certain durations of time throughout the day or week. Many times, I’ve seen great numbers of family members provide coordinated efforts when caring for the patient.

When observing care givers and families caring for a patient with Alzheimer’s, I’ve seen certain characteristics that are unique to this disease and very disturbing.

I’ve seen cases where, although the patient was suffering from Alzheimer’s, it seemed that the family suffered somewhat to a greater degree because of the fact that the patient could no longer remember things and wasn’t aware of most of the strains and stresses developing daily.

The Care Giver Suffers Along With The Patient With Alzheimer’s Disease

For instance, in one specific case a woman was losing many of her memories and deteriorating at a steady rate. Although our therapists would work with her and try to build functional skills physically, and mentally, she seemed to not be aware of her decline and was therefore, in a way, spared the suffering and depression that came along with her decline. However, the patient’s family suffered greatly because they were watching their mother, and spouse, decline daily.

In this case, the family confided in me that they feel as though their mother, and spouse, is slowly becoming a stranger. Although the family, and loved ones, realized that this is a pathological process and the patient could not help what was happening, it was difficult for hurt emotions to not factor in the situation and add to the stresses.

Since the patient commonly doesn’t know what is happening during the Alzheimer’s Disease process, to the outsider or analyzer, it would seem that the family suffers significantly more than the patient only because the patient isn’t as acutely aware. Because of this decrease in awareness, the patient is spared the mental anguish that accompanies the steady rate of decline.

The Closest Distant Strangers

Alzheimer’s disease causes many innocent victims and families to become distant strangers because all of the precious memories that are slowly taken away from the victim. While these memories are not taken away from the family members, greater strain results from a feeling of alienation. Many family members feel that it’s as though the precious memories were taken away from everyone involved because the memories can no longer be exchanged and enjoyed between the victim and family members.

In another case, the family felt a little guilty because of the things they had to resort to on behalf of their loved one suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. In this case, the family had to slowly take away things from the patient daily for safety purposes. First they took away everyday items like razors for shaving, toothpaste and tooth-brush, then mouthwash, until the spare roles of toilet paper had to be taken away. This was because the patient was flushing entire rolls down the toilet without realizing what was going on. This patient’s family was particularly disturbed because the Alzheimer’s Disease victim was someone who always took care of them, looked after them, and someone who was well respected in the community. This family loved the victim very much. They felt guilty because the patient didn’t deserve to be treated in this way. However, they were forced to take these measures, because they had no choice. So it is with most other Alzheimer’s Disease patients and family members.

Alzheimer’s disease indeed affects everyone within the family and even friends of the victim. The emotional strain can cause changes in lifestyles and relationships that if not addressed and treated properly, can cause damage to the loved ones.

There Are Resources For Families of Alzheimer’s Disease Victims

There are Alzheimer’s Disease support groups, support functions, counselors, and people to help families of victims who suffer from Alzheimer’s Disease. Physicians are beginning to analyze in the literature that when Alzheimer’s Disease develops, counseling and support for the family members are indicated, just as antibiotics are indicated for a bacterial infection.

If you suffer or are suffering from the damages that Alzheimer’s Disease not only has on the victim but on the family, there are people and places that can help you. These people can offer practical tips on how to cope and deal with your specific strains and stresses. Getting the proper help that you need when caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s Disease is just as important as our loved ones getting proper medical attention. In fact, it’s just as important. Because, if you don’t take care of yourself physically and emotionally, you will have greater difficulty caring for the one you love.

do accutane side effects outweigh the benefits of taking the drug

Do Accutane Side Effects Outweigh the Benefits of Taking the Drug?

Writen by Yvette Chau

Also known as Isotretinoin or Roaccutane, this drug is commonly associated with some of the more serious side effects like malformations in fetuses, depression, or suicide. It is common to hear about the drug’s potential side effects before hearing about how it works.

It is derived from vitamin A and is taken in the oral form. Although vitamin A is necessary for your health, too much of it will build toxicity in your body. This is why many of the main accutane side effects develop.

Typical accutane side effects

Accutane is known for keeping a patient’s skin clear for a long period of time after completing the required prescription dosages.

The most common Accutane / Roaccutane side effect is called “hypervitaminosis A” which is associated with high toxic levels of vitamin A. This can lead to dry and irritated skin, dry eyes, and dry and cracked lips. Others experience loss of hair or headaches. Also common are muscle aches and pain, and joint pain. Therefore, you should avoid vigorous exercise while on the drug.

Less typical accutane side effects

Less common accutane or roaccutane side effects include colitis, inability to see clearly at night, hepatitis, and increased levels of lipids in the blood. Accutane may sometimes increase the level of blood fats to risky levels. Occasionally it may affect the liver by increasing liver enzymes. This is the reason why blood tests are necessary on a regular basis during the treatment. If these measures are all taken carefully, the risks may be reduced. Side effects are said to stop once a person stops taking Accutane.

Other more serious, though less common, accutane side effects include, nausea, vomiting, blurred vision, changes in mood, severe stomach pain, diarrhea, bowel problems, calcium deposits in tendons (the significance of this is unknown), an increase in cholesterol levels, and yellowing of the skin.

Pregnancy and Accutane

The birth defect rate linked to Accutane is 90% in women taking Accutane. The best way to avoid this risk if you want to take the drug is to abstain from sex altogether. If you are taking the pill, you will need to use a second method of birth control at the same time. Make sure you consult with your doctor if you wish to use Accutane under these circumstances. A pregnant woman can suffer a miscarriage.

Depression

A clear link between Accutane and depression has not yet been established. In previous studies, the proportion of those attempting suicide while using Accutane in comparison with the entire number of patients on Accutane, is not higher from the general percentage of those attempting suicide out of the entire population.

However, it is still listed as a potential side effect and it is still a possible consequent of taking Accutane.

Skin Vulnerability

Another caution when taking Accutane is that your skin will not heal as quickly. Your skin will become more prone to scarring, even from such things as face waxing.

Failure of Accutane or Roaccutane or Isotretinoin

Sometimes even after a second or third course of Accutane an individual’s acne returns, or returns worse than it did before. The primary reasons for its failure include taking the incorrect dose for too short a time, using other medications that counteract Accutane, and hormonal irregulatiry in females.

Only after consulting with your doctor and considering the effects of Accutane and how serious your acne may (or may not) be, should you consider taking Accutane.

Yvette Chau is a freelance author with expertise in acne skin care, and is based in Edmonton, Canada. Having been through numerous acne treatments herself before finding those that worked, she dedicates her time to write for the website http://www.your-best-acne-treatment.com/ to help others find a cure and get informed about their options.

10 Tips for Responsible Medication Use

Writen by Barbara C. Phillips

All medications, which include prescriptions, over-the-counter preparations, vitamin and mineral supplements, and herbal preparations, are potentially dangerous. Following some simple rules will not only reduce your chance of having a problem, but should reduce your cost as well.

  1. Always shop around for medications – there is a significant difference in cost from pharmacy to pharmacy. Check both online and offline sources. For example, several of my patients have realized a significant cost savings by using the Costco pharmacy as well as online Canadian pharmacies. Should you choose to use a Canadian pharmacy, please keep abreast of any laws that may affect your purchase.

  2. Always check to see if a generic equivalent is available. Today, there are very few medications on the market where generics are not acceptable.

  3. If you can, have your prescription filled for 90 days. It will cost less than if you bough 30 days worth over 3 months. One of the reasons is that pharmacies charge a filling fee for each prescription filled.

  4. Will you medication allow you to take a half-tab? For example, if you are taking lisinopril 20mg, you can purchase 40mg tablets and break them in half – a savings of 50%. Always check with your health care provider and/or pharmacist firstnot all medications can be broken. Also, consider those nifty little pill cuttersthey work wonderfully.

  5. Do you really have to take all that medication in the first place? The best advice I can give you is to put everything into a bag and take it with you to your appointment. Make sure that you and your provider are on the same page when it comes to medications/supplements that you are taking. This is especially true when you are seeing more than one prescribing provider. You may have duplicates that you are unaware of. Always ask”do I really need this”?

  6. Keep an up-to-date list of your medications with you at all times.

  7. It is your responsibility to learn the names of your medications and why you are taking them! Most likely, your provider does not know what you mean by the “little pink pill” or the “white capsule”. There are literally dozens of each.

  8. Check your medications before you leave the pharmacy. If something does not look right, ask about it right then. DO NOT take something you are unfamiliar with.

  9. Follow label directions. If you are taking something for osteoporosis, chances are you were told to take it with a full glass of water, sitting upright while avoiding any other food or fluids for 30 minutes. They were not making it up! This goes for the labels on over-the-counter preparations. This is one time that “if a little is good, a lot must be better” can be a dangerous thought.

  10. Another very important tip. If at all possible, it is in your best interest to have a primary care provider. Ideally, he or she will coordinate your care with specialists, and keep track of all the medications you are on. If you have a complete profile on record, then between your one primary provider, and your one pharmacist, any problems in your medications should be picked up.

  11. This bonus tip comes from a lesson taught to me by a wonderful patient of mineIf you and your partner both take medication, do NOT mix them up. It can have serious consequences!

While proper nutrition and exercise are the mainstays of treatment for most health challenges, medication use is sometimes unavoidable. Make sure you need them; know what they are and how to take them. Follow directions, and don’t share! Most of all, always seek to understand what you are taking and what it’s suppose to do for you.

    Your body will thank you.

Can You Overcome Depression?

Writen by S. A. Baker

There are many things that happen within the body when depression occurs. It is not only a feeling, but a disease that is often caused by an imbalance of chemicals within the brain. Is it avoidable? Is there a way to cure depression? It is important to understand that depression is not caused by feeling bad. Instead, depression causes the bad moods, the uneasy feelings, and the worries. For that reason, anyone who is dealing with depression, need to go to their doctor and begin treatments.

For many, treating depression will give them their life back. Through the use of medication and therapy, depression can be relieved and it may or may not return down the road. No matter what has caused the depression in you or your loved one, you will not be able to cure depression on your own. You can find ways to lessen the effects on your body and mind through positive energy and forcing yourself to work through it.

The question of whether or not depression can be overcome can be answered by any of the thousands that have worked through their depression through the use of medications and therapy. Again, you can not fight depression on your own; you need others to help you get through it. In order to learn more about depression, avoiding it, and getting through it, visit websites like www.avoiddepression.com. The website is not a medical website but more of a resource to help individuals learn about their condition or the condition of the people they love.

A Simple Diet For A Weight Loss Problem Which Will Not Increase Your Stress Levels

Writen by Steve Hill

I have always had problems with my weight, which I must admit has been mainly of my own doing. I have looked into many forms of diet and weight loss programs, most of which I felt were not suitable for me, as they seemed too brutal. This article describes about a diet which I used for myself, it is a very simple diet which will not increase your level of stress.

The problem that I had growing up, was that I seemed to like all of the wrong types of food and drinks. I especially liked all types of fast food, plus various snacks like chocolate, peanuts and crisps. I also was rather partial to drinking alcohol, this was something which would give me a boost of confidence. The result is that I have had an ongoing problem with my weight for as long as I can remember.

I realised that this had to change and aged twenty-one, I decided to do something about my weight problem. As you may read, I eventually managed to reach a weight I was happy with, however even now aged thirty-two, I have to be very careful what I eat as I seem to gain weight very easily. During those first twenty-one years of my life, I had tried many diets, however I was always looking for a way of losing weight without having to resort to starving myself or by having to do huge amounts of exercise. I am sure you are thinking, haven’t we all.

I had other issues and problems in my life, I suffered with a stutter from the age of four, I had a bald patch on my head from birth and I was also quite short for a male at only five foot four. These combined with my worries over my weight affected my self confidence. To make myself happy, I would binge and comfort eat, which would only add to the problem. I would feel guilty for hours, after eating for only twenty minutes.

By the age of twenty-one, I had had enough. I decided it was now time to attempt to lose some weight. I then went about formulating my own form of diet. I realised I had to cut out these wrong type of foods I was eating and to also drink far less alcohol. To say this was difficult was an understatement, however I knew that I had to be strong and to fight off my urges and cravings.

I decided that life would not be worth living if I stopped eating all of these types of food and drinking the alcohol and this was the plan I had:

Breakfast

For breakfast I would eat properly for example, a bowl of cereal or a couple of slices of toast.

Lunch

For lunch I would also be good and eat something like a healthy salad bowl or some pasta.

In between meal snacks

I had to stop eating in between meals as this I believed was the main factor why I was overweight.

Evening meal

This was the meal where I allowed myself some pleasure as I decided that I could basically eat what I wanted to, including pizza, my favourite.

For exercise I decided to leave the car at home, wherever possible, and walk to more places. I also started taking my children to the park more often. At the park we would play games such as football, cricket and baseball. It is amazing how much weight you can lose by having fun.

These things in time helped me to lose a lot of my excess weight.
