Best Plastic Surgeons

Writen by Hugo Gallegos

Who can I trust to find me a best plastic surgeon?

Yourself! knowledge is power only when you use it. The more information you know about your surgeon and surgery, the more likely your chances of having a successful operation. If a company claims to have the best plastic surgeons “database,” find out everything you can about the company. Does the company specialize in researching only the best doctors ? Remember, there are many web sites: anyone can have a doctor database. The question is, do doctors pay to be listed in their database? Do they actually research every single doctor? Is the company a credible source ?

Where are the best plastic surgeons located?
Nowadays, you find them in the smallest to the biggest cities. The five most popular states where plastic surgeons practice are Florida, New York, California, Texas, and Illinois.

What should I look for when shopping for a plastic surgeon?
Tips on what to look for when shopping for a plastic surgeon?

  • Always make sure the surgeon is an MD who is a board-certified plastic surgeon.
  • Find out if the surgeon is fellowship trained in plastic surgery or in a field relevant to their current specialty.
  • Spas and Salons are spreading like wild fireuse caution and research your plastic surgeon thoroughly.
  • Go to Google and type the plastic surgeon’s name. Search for surgeons that pioneered a surgical procedure, wrote publications, taught Med students, etc. Often times, this information is displayed online.
  • How many years of practice does the plastic surgeon have under their belt?

How do I select the best plastic surgeon for me?
Many services and even magazines often times list the best doctors according to surveys conducted. Their surveys are usually based on doctors who are voted by their peers. Though it’s a good starting point, it’s only one component in finding the best plastic surgeons. Here’s why:

  • Surgeons are extremely busy and rarely participate in these types of surveys, so results are limited.
  • Surgeons can nominate their buddies and ask them to return the favor, to attract new clientele.
  • Some surgeons are asked to nominate one of their peers in a certain area only.

What are the 4 Critical Components in finding the best plastic surgeons?

  • Education – They earned a degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Experience – How many cosmetic surgeries have they performed?
  • Recognition – Are they well recognized among their peers, patients, and medical societies, and/or involved in their communities?
  • Training – Does their residency and/or if fellowship focus on plastic surgery?

Bottom line:
When having plastic surgery you will be looking at your surgeons work for the rest of your life. Doing a little homework could be a wisely investment.

heel pain affects millions of americans also known as plantar fasciitis

Heel Pain Affects Millions of Americans — Also Known as Plantar Fasciitis

Writen by Eddie Davis

Heel pain is the fourth most common reason for patients to visit their family doctor’s office. The most common cause of heel pain is plantar fasciitis.

There are other causes of heel pain such as rheumatoid arthritis and gout but plantar fasciitis probably makes up about 95 percent of the causes of heel pain.

The plantar fascia is a broad, flat ligament that runs along the bottom of the foot lending the foot support. It is shaped like a trapezoid, being narrower at its attachment to the heel bone then widening as it courses forward toward its insertion at the base of the toes.

Patients often present with pain of insidious onset, gradual progression and culminating to a point in which medical attention is sought.

The plantar fascia serves to support the foot so anything that is increasing the demand for support on the foot increases strain of the plantar fascia. Common reasons for increased strain on the plantar fascia include overpronation which is a rolling in of the foot. Overpronation is often confused with a flat foot but the two are very different.

The height of the arch has little to do with the mechanical integrity of the foot but it is how the arch functions as we walk (gait) that determines how much strain is placed on the plantar fascia. A foot that rolls inward too much after the foot strikes the ground is a foot that overpronates and is a foot which strains the plantar fascia.

A couch potato probably takes 1000 to 3000 steps per day while an active person may take 10,000 to 30,000 steps per day. Imagine the plantar fascia being over strained or over stretched with each step and that over stretch taking place 30,000 times a day. The cumulative, repetitive stretching of the plantar fascia begins to take its toll and the plantar fascia reacts by thickening and becoming painful.

The key to releiving plantar fasciitis in the long term is to stop the repeated over stretching of the fascia in gait. This can be accomplished by a foot specialist making a specialized device called an orthotic that is made from a mold of the foot and functions to hold the foot in a position of minimal stress on the plantar fascia. There are a number of other treatments like cortisone shots but they are for temporary releif only and can have side effects if used incorrectly. A prescription for physcial therapy or massage therapy can also provide temproary releif in a safer fashion.

A precription orthotic is like a prescription eyeglass in that it’s efficacy depends on the accuracy of the prescription. Placing one’s foot in a foam box to capture its shape only serves to capture the foot in the wrong position. It is up to the foot specialist to position the foot in the corrected position, the position that minimizes strain on the plantar fascia and then capturing that corrected shape with a plaster of Paris mold or with newer technology, a three dimensional optical scanner.

The mold or “capture” of the corrected foot shape is then sent to a prescription orthotic laboratory where the orthotic is made. The mold is called a negative cast so the lab has to pour plaster into the negative cast to make a model of the foot. plastic or graphite is then heat molded to the model to make the orthtotic.

How does one know if a lab making a quality product? The labs self-police themselves through an organization called the Professional Foot Orthotic Lab of America (PFOLA).

Many patients have the impression that they will recieve the prescription orthotic and that is it. That is actually the start of treatment as the patient becomes accustomed to the beneficial changes in gait and the plantar fasciitis gradually fades into oblivion.

Dr. Eddie Davis is a podiatric physician (foot specialist) practicing about 18 miles southeast of Seattle, WA. He has been in practice for about 22 years having graduated from the Temple University School of Podiatric medicine in 1982. A residency in Podiatric Surgery was completed at the Veterans Adminstration Medical Center in Washington, DC. Dr. Davis then became board certified by the American board of Podaitric Surgery in 1991. Three podiatric physcians at Dr. Davis’ practice, the Puyallup Foot and Ankle Center see over 300 patients per year with plantar fasciitis. Dr. Davis has authored a website entitled http://www.heel-pain.org to help educate the public and family physicians about heel pain.

Goji Juice

Writen by Kirk Bachelder

Few people in our Western Civilization have ever heard of Goji juice. In the past 2 years in the United States, the popularity of Goji products have skyrocketed. As the Baby Boomer Generation is entering into their 60’s, health problems and concerns are reaching unprecedented levels. Why the sudden popularity of Goji juice?

For one thing, it is one of the most nutritionally dense food source known on earth. Secondly, it is considered to be the richest source of antioxidants in our planet as well. Thirdly, it is said to possess 4 unique polysaccharides not found in many other food sources. There are many Goji Berry juice products on the market today, some state they are 98% juice.

If you read the fine print however, you will discover that the other fruit juices in the product are not just for flavoring, but often make up well more than 50% of the contents. When purchasing Goji juice, it is recommended that the percentage of pure Goji juice be available on the label or in their literature so you have something to go by.

A good thing about all goji juice is that the taste is great. There is not many times where something that is good for your health tastes so good. It is hard to describe the taste of goji juice it is some where between pear and cranberry juice but you will have to taste it your self to tell. Most bottles are in 32oz. Sizes and the recommended daily dose is 1oz.

Tim O’shea has been practicing and researching nutrition and health related products for many years. Since goji berry juice has become more popular in the US in the recent years his research has been guide mostly in that direction. This product and more can be found at http://www.gojiberries.us

carry weights while jogging or walking pros and cons

Carry Weights While Jogging or Walking? Pros and Cons

Writen by Gabe Mirkin, M.D.

Should you carry weights while your run, walk or jog?

The only advantage to exercising while carrying weights is that you can get more exercise while moving slowly. To strengthen your heart, you have to exercise vigorously enough to increase your heart rate at least 20 beats a minute above resting. How fast your heart beats depends on how much blood it has to pump to your body. When you run and carry hand weights, your heart has to pump blood to your exercising leg muscles and also has to do extra work to pump blood to your arm muscles. That means that you can achieve the same heart rate when you run more slowly.

Competitive runners should never carry hand weights. How fast you run in races depends on how fast you run in practice. Carrying hand weights slows you down, so you become a slower runner. Carrying weights also interferes with the natural motion of your arms while running. On the other hand, carrying weights can help to protect people who develop frequent running injuries. Carrying hand weights slows them down, so less force is directed at their leg muscles while they run. Hand weights will not do much to increase your arm strength; to become stronger, you must lift progressively heavier weights.

How To Stop Snoring – 1

Writen by Anantha Krishnan

Snoring is No Laughing Matter

As innocent children armed with our trusty toolbox of crayons and markers, we often depicted a snoring person as someone lying in bed with a series of “Zs” casually emerging from a peacefully sleeping body.

However, what we neglected to draw and again, rather innocently was the severe underlying damage that was occurring in that ordinary picture.

The Damage is Far-Reaching

Damage to whom? Well, damage to at least one person, and potentially many more. Primarily, snoring has the very real potential of causing health damage to the snorer him or herself. This damage can range from relatively mild sleep disturbances, to outright fatal Sleep Apnea (described further in this book). Indeed, when looked at under this light, those innocent Zs in our childhood drawings don’t seem quite so harmless, anymore. Yet is that where the suffering ends — with the snorer? Hardly; and this is where the dilemma of snoring and it is indeed a dilemma takes on an added hue of suffering and misery. To understand this in its painful clarity, lets return quickly to that childhood drawing of the sleeping person (usually a man) slumbering away after a hard day of work, possibly dreaming about something pleasant, as Zs floated up from his peaceful, sleeping body. Now, how many of us took the time to draw the person trying to sleep next to that snoring partner? Hardly any of us, I would venture to presume, took the time to accurately depict the total anguish that the non-snoring partner of a snorer undergoes on a nightly basis. But really, that’s where a great deal of snoring-related suffering is contained: in the life of someone trying to live (and love!) a snorer.

Snoring must be Solved!

Of course, non snorers who have valiantly slept in the same bed, or even in the same house, as a chronic snorer know precisely how severe this problem is, and they don’t require any convincing that snoring is a problem that requires a solution! Yet there are some, perhaps, who haven’t yet experienced the true violence of living with a snorer; and for those people, I humbly invite you to try sleeping with any of the following devices; all of which have been ranked as emitting the same or fewer decibels than the average snorer:

* An operational lawn mower (and not the super-quiet luxury kind, either)

* An industrial vacuum cleaner (the kind that picks up nails and glass!)

* A running motorcycle (these things have no muffler, really, and you can hear them from blocks away!)

* A passing jet (the kind that wakes up babies, scares cats, and sets off car alarms)

* An operational chain saw (hopefully you haven’t actually slept while one of these things are operatingunless you were a horror movie actor)

* A blender, food processor, or hair dryer (not one; all three at once!)

The Noise is Often NOT Temporary!

And remember, please: we aren’t talking simply hearing these sounds and then having them fade, such as what were used to when we hear a passing jet (i.e. we only have to hear it for a minute or so, and then its gone). Imagine, if you can, listening to these sounds all night long; and then youll have a very real and non-exaggerated sense of what a non-snorer withstands, or tries to withstand, on a nightly basis when attempting to co-exist with a full-time snorer. So in a nutshell: if your exposure to the world of snoring is simply and innocently depicting some happy Zs floating up from a peacefully sleeping person, possibly beside another peacefully sleeping non-snoring person, then its time to update the records: its not a laughing, innocent matter at all. For both the snorer and the non-snorer(s), snoring is an extremely serious matter.

genital pimples

Genital Pimples

Writen by Marcus Peterson

The skin in the genital region does not differ in any way from other hair-bearing parts of the skin. However, the fact that the genitals are usually covered and confined for the greater part of the day may give rise to some unique circumstances that can aggravate pimples. Also, genital skin is rich in nerve endings, and as such, any kind of skin eruption is immediately a problem.

For all of the above-mentioned reasons, the customary anti-pimple preparations usually used on the face are to be strictly avoided when it comes to genital pimples. To illustrate, a solution containing the chemical benzoyl peroxide may be only mildly irritating if used elsewhere, but will cause excruciating pain if applied to inflamed genital skin. Nor is it advisable to try and drain a genital pimple manually.

Genital pimples can be a symptom of sexually transmitted disease, and any kind of fluid-filled eruptions on the skin in that area should be considered in that light if unprotected sex has taken place. At the very least, an STD may take the form of the painful herpes zoster (the kind that often shows up on facial skin); this is painful but not very serious. However, the dreaded syphilis initially makes its presence known by a reddish genital skin rash that might include pimple-like eruptions.

Genital pimples should not be confused with genital warts. They may resemble pimples, but that is where all similarity ends. There are over fifty distinct strains of genital warts, and almost all of them are typified by skin-colored, white or gray bumps – but these are permanent and even surgical removal is a strictly temporary measure.

Blocked hair follicles in the pubic region will result in pimples just as they would anywhere else on the body, and routine hygiene is all that is called for in such cases. Again, a dermatologist is the best judge of whether an outbreak is harmless or not.

Hepatitis C Virus

Writen by Kent Pinkerton

Hepatitis C is one of the seven types of hepatitis, a disease that takes on many forms and features inflammation of the liver. Although this type does not reveal many signs or symptoms, there are various treatments that can be used to cure this disease, one of which is a combination of interferon alfa injections and ribavirin capsules. But for mild hepatitis C, doctors will recommend bed rest, a healthy diet, and some medications after diagnosis.

Hepatitis C is diagnosed through a blood test to determine the severity of the disease. In the case of chronic hepatitis, the illness can be assessed through a tissue sample from the liver. Aside from this, there are many other tests for liver function that can be conducted to determine to what extent the liver is affected by the hepatitis C virus.

In 1989, investigators at Chiron, Inc., discovered the hepatitis C virus, better known as HCV. This is an enveloped, single-stranded, positive sense RNA virus of the Hepacivirus genus and Flaviviridae family. This virus binds to receptors, the CD81 and Scavenger Receptor class b1, on liver tissue when circulating in the bloodstream. Based on genetic differences, HCV is classified into six genotypes that can be transmitted by blood contact. Unlike hepatitis A and B, there is no vaccine for hepatitis C. But there are available treatments that may vary depending on the HCV genotype.

In spite of the discovery of HCV, much experimentation should still be done in order to come up with drugs to better treat this disease. Even with the development of excellent diagnostic methods, the production of specific drugs that work against HCV is yet to come. But with the advancement in science and technology, they soon will be discovered.

Insider Secrets to Marketing Your Yoga Teaching Service, Part 5

Writen by Paul Jerard

If you want to keep your Yoga students coming back for more, you have to keep your classes interesting. Don’t keep doing the same thing every week. How would you feel if the restaurant you went to served you the “usual” every time you sat down? Most of us would change restaurants, because it’s boring.

If you are bored, and feeling stale with the routine and lesson plans in the Yoga classes you teach, so are your students. This is time to develop alternate lesson plans. Look around your class to get a feel for the energy; if there is none, you have to make changes. Design Yoga classes with a slightly different emphasis to see if you can recapture some excitement or find a trend.

Monitor your drop out rate and know your stats. Are you losing more students out the back door, while focusing on bringing new students through the front door? This is very common, but many health clubs and Yoga studios make the mistake of taking repeat business for granted.

When you have a small number of Yoga students to track, you don’t have to drive yourself crazy with statistics. If you grow into a large Yoga studio, you have to pay attention on a weekly basis. Who is out? Why are they out? and so on.

I’m not telling you to hit the panic button every time your numbers drop. Some slow downs are seasonal and others just happen. What you are looking for are trends. Trends tell you the average life of a student / teacher relationship and why most of them leave.

Many of them leave, because they don’t feel like they are acknowledged. No one greets them or makes any small talk. Others leave because of the class atmosphere; they didn’t bond with the particular teacher, they didn’t like a student in the class, or the material covered went stale. Other reasons might be a job/family change. This is why you have to get to know your students, and if you don’t like it, find someone who will. A person who greets your students is important, no matter what size your business is. This person serves as a “sounding board” and can head off a few disasters at the pass.

Sometimes you can guide a student gently into an alternate Yoga class. Without understanding and identifying trends, we would all fly blind. This takes a lot of guesswork off your back in the future. When the company grows, you will need to understand your direction and make corrections accordingly, just like any other business.

Herbal Beauty Products

Writen by Steve Valentino

Herbs are nature’s gift to mankind. They are highly potent and have healing qualities. Herbs and their derivatives are proven to be safer than other cosmetic products, and have negligible side effects. Herbal beauty products have their source in the ancient Indian system of medicine called Ayurveda.

Herbal beauty products are a combination of dried powders, flowers and roots in an oil base. They contain no preservatives, and are ecofriendly. They are not tested on animals and can be used on any skin type. The most sought-after herbal products are those that contain aloe vera. It is an essential ingredient in most herbal preparations.

Other well-known herbal products include cleansing agents made from spearmint and lime, moisturizers made from lavender and ginseng, and exfoliating scrubs made from the seeds and pits of fruits, and cleansing grains like oatmeal, corn meal, and tapioca. In addition, herbal moisturizers containing cucumber and cantaloupe are mild, light, and equally effective against dry skin.

Some herbal products help with mild conditions such as color patches, wrinkled skin, dull skin, and acne. These herbal products have their origin in flower and plant extracts.

For those who would prefer to make their own herbal concoctions at home, a wide variety of recipes are available on the Internet and in book stores. Some of the simplest recipes include two to three ingredients such as sage and sea salt, or apricots and water blended with skim milk powder, which can be easily found in stores.

Beauty products are not essential, but they are a luxury that most of us can afford. If you use beauty products, try to find some that have herbal ingredients, which will cater to your concerns while taking care of your body.

Eat More Pectin For Successful Weight Loss

Writen by Lee Dobbins

Wouldn’t it be great if there was a way to not feel so hungry all the time when you are trying to lose weight? Well there is a way and it’s not some new fad either, it’s something that’s natural, has no adverse side effects and might be sitting right in your fridge – fiber.

One type of fiber that you probably already have been eating is called pectin. Pectin is found in fruits, such as apples, strawberries, and peaches, along with vegetables including carrots, sweet potatoes and beans. Pectin is a carbohydrate that has no calories.

Pectin is a great source of fiber, which we all know is important for a healthy diet. Aside from helping you feel full longer, pectin can help to cut cholesterol and blood sugar levels. It may even aid in the prevention of colon cancer.

Pectin can help you lose and maintain your weight because it causes the stomach to empty more slowly. As a result, after eating pectin, you feel satisfied longer. This means that you will eat less, which will lead to weight loss. And if you think you’ll have to be gobbling down hundreds of apples or guzzling pectin drinks, think again – research has shown that as little as a single teaspoon can help you to feel satisfied.

Where Can You Get Pectin?

Thankfully, you won’t have to drive miles out of your way to get your supply of pectin because it is sold right in your local grocery store. It comes in a powder, which may be known as Sure-Jel, or a liquid, known as Certo. Derived from grapefruit and apples, pectin is usually found with the baking supplies in most supermarkets.

How To Take Pectin

You can mix pectin with orange juice, water, or soft drinks. It has no taste so shouldn’t affect the taste of the beverage you mix it in. It is best to increase your intake gradually to let your system adjust to the added fiber. Start off with a teaspoon a day and then gradually add more in to a max of 3 teaspoons a day. You can also add pectin to broth or soups, applesauce and even baked potatoes.

Lee Dobbins writes about Low Carb and Low GI eating as well as other weight loss issues. Visit http://www.lowcarb-resource.com for more articles on healthy dieting.
