Hair Fall – Common Problem, Common Solutions

Writen by Rahul Goyal

First of all, hair fall is a natural phenomenon. It is going to affect almoost everybody after a certain age. After 23-24 it’s natural that body starts shedding hair. So don’t panic much, just keep your calm and try these:

1. Protein – That’s the key. For saving your hair, you should take a protein rich diet. Raw or boiled eggs are the best. Fish is also a good resource for protein. I think you should be a non-vegetarian to save your hair.

2. Oil – Applying coconut oil is the best option to save your hair. Coconut oil helps reducing the dandruff to a large extent. And dandruff is one of the major reasons for falling hair.

3. Shampoo – Hair fall also depends upon the shampoo you are using for washing your hair. Try some of the better brands and stick to one which suits your hair best. Switching for one to another on regular bases also destroy your hair. For me heads and shoulder was the best suited.

4. Harsh chemicals – Stay away from these. Applying harsh chemicals like gels, creams and straighter etc are prohibited.

5. Beer – Now you will ask me how’s that connected to hair. I even don’t know that but when I used to drink beer my hair were healthier then they are now. But this is not testified by any lab so please use it at your own risk. I will not recommend drinking a lot of it.

Thats it.

Getting Rid Of Pimples In Three Easy Steps

Writen by John Coutts

Getting rid of pimples is not what young people should have to spend their time on. Your teenage years should be the happiest in your life, and for many that’s true. But for some, pimples and acne combine to make life a misery. And it’s not just teenagers either; older people too can have trouble getting rid of pimples. Here are a few tips that might help.

1. Avoid stress. Stress is bad for the body in so many ways. Many people are surprised to discover that stress can produce adverse physical effects, but it can and it does. Learn to relax more and perhaps even learn relaxation exercises such as yoga, or T’ai Chi.

You should avoid caffeine, which is found in coffee and tea. I know this may be difficult with our well-established coffee culture so evident, but caffeine will stimulate the production of hormones, which will work against getting rid of pimples and acne.

2. Avoid acid-forming foods, such as cream, milk, cheese, yoghurt, and all other dairy foods. Avoid meat and cooked fats, especially fried fatty meats. You should also keep away from products containing flour, rice and sugar.

But it’s not all bad. There are lots of tasty alkaline-forming foods that are good for you. These include things like, fresh fruit and fresh vegetables. Nuts are also good, though you should be sparing with these, and seeds are good too.

3. There are many home remedies that individuals have found useful in the battle for getting rid of pimples. Freshly cut garlic gently rubbed into the affected areas before going to bed, then washed off in the morning has been known to work. Others believe in using a mixture of olive oil and salt rubbed over any pimply area and washed off again after a few hours. And still others have great faith in a paste of baking soda and water applied before bedtime and kept on overnight.

As in all things, common sense and moderation is always a good guide; taking too many beers on a Saturday night will do nothing for getting rid of pimples, nor will eating huge slabs of chocolate every day. Be sensible and disciplined and you will succeed in getting rid of pimples and acne — no matter how long they have been a part of your life!

Adolescent Nutrition: Teen Challenges and How to Face Them

Writen by Michael Scaccia

Teen nutrition can be very difficult to manage as a parent. Let’s face it, teens in general can be difficult to manage at times.

There are plenty of obstacles that stand in the way of making sure that your teenage is eating healthy:

Teens spend more time out of the house and on their own than younger children. They are making choices for themselves, often based on convenience and the “hip factor”.

You also can’t keep teens away from food in the house. With younger kids, it’s easier to hide food, or keep the cookie jar out of reach. It gets tough when our kids are taller than we are!

Teens just have a tendency to migrate toward junk. Junk food tastes good, and they really aren’t able to understand or relate to the long-term consequences of eating poorly.

There are several ways that you can make a difference in your teen’s nutrition and overall health:

Keep the junk out of the house.

While you can’t always control what happens outside your house, at least you can regulate what happens within. Don’t buy junk and sugared drinks, and they won’t have access to it. Shop smart and have healthy foods that are easily accessible for snacks.

Bring your child shopping with you.

Teach your child what foods are better for them and why. Show them how to use a food label to help make good choices. Teach them today, so that when they are really on their own, they’ll have a skill that will help them live longer and happier.

Let them see the benefits.

Explain things in terms that they can relate to and understand. You can tell them that obesity will lead to heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and cancer, but that probably won’t mean much to them today. Tell them that they can feel better about themselves, climb stairs without getting out of breath, and play longer, harder, and better.

Don’t be afraid to tell them what the right thing is to do. Studies show that teens really do pay attention to what their parents say, and that a parent carries more influence with their teen than their friends.

five tough questions and answers on the future of prescription drug marketing

Five Tough Questions and Answers on the Future of Prescription Drug Marketing

Writen by Fard Johnmar

Over the past decade, the world of pharmaceutical communications has changed significantly. In the late 1990s, drug companies spent hundreds of millions of dollars on direct-to-consumer (DTC) advertisements that made drugs like Viagra and Prilosec household names.

Today, the threat of government regulation and widespread criticism has forced the industry to change its marketing tactics. Drug companies are currently shifting marketing dollars from product promotion to education. In this article, I ask and answer five tough questions about current and future trends in pharmaceutical marketing.

Q1: Should pharmaceutical companies be allowed to market their products?

A1: Yes. Drug companies have a responsibility to deliver value to their stockholders, investors and other stakeholders. In an ideal world companies would make products that sell themselves. You don’t need an advertisement to sell a cure for cancer. However, most products are not cure-alls. Rather they represent incremental advances in a number of conditions. Companies also invest research dollars into medications that are for purely cosmetic or lifestyle uses (e.g., Viagra, Ambien). In short, drug firms have every right to promote their products. However, it should be done responsibly. This means companies should:

- Adhere to the industry trade group PhRMA’s voluntary guidelines on direct-to-consumer DTC advertising (no reminder ads, wait an appropriate period of time before starting advertising for a new medication).

- Highlight the benefits and risks of medications in ways people can understand and act on.

Q2: Should the FDA ban direct-to-consumer advertising?

A2: I don’t think that the FDA would be able to ban DTC advertising due to 1st amendment concerns. However, I do believe that the FDA can do more to regulate drug advertising. Most importantly, the agency needs to figure out a better way to monitor and regulate pharmaceutical advertising.

Although companies submit advertising to the FDA’s Division of Drug Marketing, Advertising and Communications (DDMAC) when they first appear, the agency does not vet all promotional material. In fact, a December 2005 Pharmaceutical Executive article noted that the FDA has 35 staffers in the DDMAC office who are responsible for reviewing 53,000 promotional items a year.

Perhaps one solution is to dramatically increase funding for DDMAC by implementing a user-fee system similar to the one the FDA introduced to speed approval of medications. To prevent backlogs, the agency could focus on reviewing advertisements for drugs or devices that will be used in significant numbers of patients.

Q3: Should medical journals ban advertisements from drug makers?

A3: In an article published in the June 2006 edition of PLoS, Adriane Fugh-Berman, Karen Alladin and Jarva Chow suggest that “medical journals should not accept advertisements from pharmaceutical companies, medical device companies, or other industries ‘relevant to medicine.’”

This an interesting idea, but it is neither feasible or appropriate. Journals have well-established policies governing how they handle advertising from drug companies and how to separate the marketing and editorial departments. Not all publications are perfect. Some journals are not very credible because of a weak peer-review process or a perception that they do not have the resources (or reputation) to attract excellent scholarship.

In addition, anecdotal evidence indicates that many healthcare providers learn about new medications or devices via journal advertisements. If something is not advertised, a physician won’t know about it. Rather than focusing on drug advertising, journals should continue to shore up their peer-review and editorial review processes.

Q4: Does the pharmaceutical industry engage in “disease mongering”?

A4: This is not a new complaint. Critics of the pharmaceutical industry have long maintained that companies have turned ordinary aliments into diseases in order to turn a profit. My short answer is “yes and no.” Like many others, I believe that certain conditions are more legitimate than others. I’d rather companies spend less time promoting some “cosmetic” conditions and more time focusing on life threatening conditions like diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure and drug-resistant bacterial infections.

Q5: Do we need more or less safety information in drug labels?

A5: Yes, yes, yes. In this era of “consumer-driven healthcare,” people need more information about the risks and benefits of medications. More risk information may lead to better informed patients and better decision-making.

How to Live Forever – Life Extension

Writen by J Shipper

When we talk about life extension we don’t talk about keeping people alive through artificial means, we actually mean extending the normal, natural life of Man.

Definition:
Life is a multi-faceted concept. Life may refer to the ongoing process of which living things are a part; the period between the birth (or a point at which the entity can be considered to be living) and death of an organism; the condition of an entity that has been born (or reached the point in its existence at which it can be established to be alive) and has yet to die; and that which makes a living thing alive.

Source: Wikipedia.org

The term Life Extension now is mainly used in promoting and selling Vitamins and indeed Vitamins or Minerals seem to play an important role in extending life and in earning money for Vitamin manufacturers.

Durk Pearson and Sandy Shaw laid the groundwork for Life Extension by practicing on their own bodies by taking controversial supplements or massive doses of supplements, and documenting the results within their own bodies. Their research led to anti-aging breakthoughs that have been exciting and significant.

Most Popular Life Extension Products:

CoQ10
CoQ10 is a nutrient found in each cell of the body. CoQ10 — also spelled CoQ 10 — is found in foods, particularly in fish and meats.

In addition to playing a significant role in the energy system of each of our cells, CoQ10 is also believed to have antioxidant properties. Many people who take CoQ10 notice that this nutrient enhances physical energy.

Melatonin
Melatonin is released from the pineal gland and helps maintain tissues in a young state of health. Melatonin keeps our circadian cycle in tune as it communicates with the body’s cells.

Not only does this hormone work to maintain cell health, it appears to regulate a system of self-repair and regeneration. When this diminishes, our biological functions are impaired.

Melatonin seems to work to help improve sleep. Melatonin seems to increase the speed of falling asleep and seems to add to the quality of sleep in about 60% of people who use it.

Most recent studies also suggest that the lack of Melatonin in the body can promote breast cancer.

In a major breakthrough, researchers have linked exposure to light at night to the growth in breast-cancer tumours. The tumours grew because artificial light interfered with the ability of women to create melatonin, the hormone that regulates the body’s daytime and night rhythms.

DHEA
DHEA is a steroid hormone, a chemical relation of testosterone and estrogen. It is made from cholesterol by the adrenal glands, which sit atop each kidney.

Studies in animals have shown that DHEA can prevent or delay the onset of cancer, “hardening” of the arteries, lethal viral infections, lowered immunity, obesity, and diabetes.

Second Generation Life Extension

Life in the Future

There are visionaries today who consider the awesome benefits to human health and longevity promised by the leading edge of medical science–and what YOU can do today to take full advantage of these startling advances.

Some of these visionaries plan to live forever. No, not just in the history books, but as living, breathing, healthy human beings.

Their idea is that if you can manage to keep your body in good shape for the next 20 years NanoTechnology and BioScience will be so advanced that you can replace or regrow parts of your body so it will never wear out.

These are the actual ideas developed by some visionaries for eternal life:

Step one:
Aggressively slowing down the aging process by eating the right foods, taking vitamins and exercising; in actual fact trying to survive the next 20 years at which time BioTechnology and Nanotechnology will have become so advanced that we can replace ailing body parts at will. .

Step two:
Relying on BioTechnology such as stem cell research, the ability to modify our genetic and protein codes which in turn will slow down or even reverse aging. We have mapped out the human genome. With this information we can now find out the specific functions of our genes. Eventually we will be able to change the genes themselves. We are already able to regrow teeth and soon will be able to regrow cells, tissues and organs and introduce them into our bodies without rejection.

Step three: the use of Molecular Nanotechnology.
Nanotechnology will enable us to rebuild, molecule by molecule, our whole body. People are already working on “intelligent cells”. These cells will actually operate as computers which can detect and destroy cancer cells and regrow diseased cells.

So, just make sure you survive the next 20 years.

healthy reasons why you should drink green tea

Healthy Reasons Why You Should Drink Green Tea

Writen by Jeffrey Meier

Did you ever realize that simply by drinking two cups of green tea can actually save you from so many health problems? The Chinese have been using it since ancient times for treating everything from headaches to depression. Green tea has been used as a medicine in China for at least 4,000 years.

The process:

The Chinese are said to be the first ones to discover tea. China produces the world’s finest green teas. At the time of Tang Dynasty wild tea was gathered and then processed which involved steaming the tea on a bamboo tray and grinding the tea into a fine pulp called tea mud. Then this mud was placed into moulds. After that the tea was pressed and left to harden. It was then transferred out of the mould, dried in the sun, and baked to prevent rotting. This is very different to how green tea is processed today. Green teas are rich in vitamin C. It is believed that they stimulate the spirit better than any other blend thus improving the abilities to think and meditate for prolonged periods without fatigue.

Benefits of Green Tea:

According to a research it has been estimated that drinking green tea reduced the risk of esophageal cancer in Chinese men and women by nearly sixty percent. The reason being that green tea is rich in catechin polyphenols, particularly EGCG-Epigallocatechin Gallate which is a powerful anti-oxidant: besides inhibiting the growth of cancer cells, it kills cancer cells without harming healthy tissue. There is also research indicating that drinking green tea lowers total cholesterol levels, as well as improving the ratio of good (HDL) cholesterol to bad (LDL) cholesterol. It has also been effective in inhibiting the abnormal formation of blood clots.

Apart from this green tea has been claimed to be good for:

Stopping certain neurodegenerative illnesses such as Alzheimer
Preventing/ treating cancer
Burning fat and increasing metabolism
Treating rheumatoid arthritis
Treating Cognition
Lowering high cholesterol levels
Treating cardiovascular disease
Treating infection
For impaired immune function
Prevent tooth decay

How much should one take?

Different researchers claim different estimation of how much green tea should one consume. Some say that drinking ten cups of green tea per day would help you stay cancer-free for three years longer than if you drink less than three cups a day .Meanwhile, another study suggests that drinking four or more cups of green tea per day could help prevent rheumatoid arthritis, or reduce symptoms in individuals already suffering from the disease. It is also reported that breast cancer spreads less quickly, in women with a history of drinking five cups or more of green tea daily. A University of California study on the cancer-preventative qualities of green tea concluded that you could probably attain the desired level of polyphenols by drinking merely two cups per day. As green tea does not have any known side effects so you can drink according to what you think is the right amount for you.

Green tea has so many health benefits though Green, oolong, and black teas all come from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant so what sets green tea apart from the other teas is the way it is processed. The tea leaves used for green tea are steamed or pan-dried immediately after picking, arresting bacterial growth and thus preventing the EGCG compound from being oxidized. Then they are rolled by hand to squeeze out excess moisture and to release flavor enzymes. On the other hand black and oolong tea leaves are made from fermented leaves, as a result of which the EGCG compound gets converted into other compounds which is not effective in preventing and fighting various diseases.

So, get your green tea today and enjoy your drink!!

Biohazards at Work

Writen by Alexandra Gubbins

Each week there are 9 people killed at work in the UK, with one person in 17 having an accident at work each year. The Health and Safety Executive estimates that at any one time there will be 2 million workers in the UK suffering from some kind of occupational ill health, from stress to manual lifting injuries.

Schedule 3 of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations covers the law on biological hazards. Bio hazards can be defined as “[a hazard] which is posed to humans by a biological organism, or by a material produced by such an organism” (Oxford University).

Biological hazards include viruses, bacteria, fungi, poisonous plants, and animal droppings.

There are thousands of people who work in industries in which they come into contact with biohazards. Some of these industries include:

- Medicine. At hospitals and clinics needlestick injuries pose a significant biohazard threat.

- Sewage disposal and working with water. Bacteria are the main biohazard in this line of work.

- Agriculture. Bacteria often present biohazards in agriculture, as well as viruses such as avian flu.

Medical workers
Needlestick injuries are a great risk to medical workers in hospitals and nursing homes, as well as in veterinary workers when injecting animals. They carry risk of infection of HIV, and Hepatitis B and C for both the people who are using the needles, and those disposing of them, such as waste disposal contractors.

To reduce the chance of an accident at work occurring, proper disposal of needles is essential. In the place of work there should be a clear procedure to dispose of used needles safely and with as little risk as possible.

Sewage disposal and water workers
Bacteria that cause illnesses such as Weil’s Disease and infections of the skin and eyes are a major health hazard for sewage and water workers.

There should be proper protection provided by employers for people working in this industry, including gloves, footwear, eye and respiratory protection, and face visors. Clean water, soap and towels should also be made available to prevent an biohazard related accident at work.

Agriculture workers
High levels of airborne bacteria and fungi are found in agriculture settings, and people working in the agriculture industry can suffer respiratory disorders as a result.

Wearing face masks, glasses and rubber gloves are ways in which the risk that bacteria pose, both airborne and otherwise, can be lessened for agriculture workers.

Avian flu was identified in 1997 as a virus that began infecting humans, and is beginning to be seen as posing a wider threat. Although no instances have been found of it yet in the UK, this may be a problem in the future. It is passed when a person inhales the virus from being near an infected bird.

Negligent exposure to biohazards
If the proper health regulations are not adhered to, workers become exposed to these biohazards and become unwell, sometimes with minor illnesses and sometimes with something much more serious.

People who have suffered an illness or accident at work through exposure to biological hazards should consult a legal professional about getting compensation.

Anti-Aging- Part 11- Don’t Let Fear Eliminate the Future

Writen by Patricia Little

Job 3:25 says “For the thing which I greatly feared has come upon me, and that which I was afraid of has come upon me” No matter how excellent, any anti aging program loses its power when fear is in control. This can be planted into a mind at a very young age through a wide array of experiences, frights or simply fear filled family dialogue. This is the type most difficult to eliminate because as growing children we believe this is how everyone thinks of situations.

Fears surrounding ‘aging’ vary with every body but especially relate to health, happiness, finances, loneliness or general care and must never be allowed to manifest. As the body matures, fear surrounding these life essentials can grow as the issue grows in perceived importance.

The awesome power of fear can only be understood by someone who has been through the nightmare of dealing with a challenge that overtook body and mind from worries based on that which they feared most. It makes itself known 24 hours a day through a variety of ways.

The base of any fear filled thought may not always be known. Every mind does have a God given ability requiring only basic training that can carry and emanate enough power to fight any fear. The simple instructions guarantee release before a positive future is stolen.

Get Your Vitamins Naturally When Possible

Writen by Bob Benson

There’s no doubt that there are times when supplemental vitamins are a good idea, but the best way to get your daily requirements of all vitamins is to consume them naturally. The problem is that most people don’t eat enough of the right foods to get all the vitamins needed to keep your body healthy.

One of the strikes against getting the right vitamins through diet alone is time. It simply takes time to stop for breakfast, lunch and even dinner. Another is the sheer availability of fast food. Most people are filled with the need to grab something to eat on the go.

Arguably the biggest strike against eating right is simply habit. We tend to grab a package of chips instead of an apple or banana for a mid-morning snack. A donut and coffee could easily be replaced by a muffin and fruit juice or milk, but we tend to crave those less healthy foods. Take a minute to consider some sources of vitamins that could easily be part of your daily food intake. You may be surprised at easy a few substitutions could be.

Orange or apple juice instead of one soda a day. You’ll be surprised at how quickly you develop a taste for the juice. With this one change, you’re greatly increasing your intake of Vitamin C, needed to keep your immune system healthy. Not only that, apple juice provides a pick-me-up very similar to the caffeine rush some people look for.

Bake it, broil it or eat it raw. We tend to fry so many foods – including the popular potato. Instead of French Fries at your next meal, choose a tossed salad or baked potato. Unless counting calories is an issue, slather on the dressing or sour cream to make it more appealing. The bottom line is that baked or raw veggies are generally higher in vitamins than their fried counterparts.

Breakfast cereals are often fortified with vitamins – even those “good” cereals. Choose foods fortified with vitamins instead of those “empty” calories to help get the vitamins you need to keep you going throughout the day. Manufacturers are meeting the demands for “food-to-go” with cereal bars and other nutritious foods that are rich in vitamins.

At the end of the day, most people simply don’t eat right. If you measure the intake of vitamins over the course of a typical day, you’ll probably find that you’re not getting all the vitamins you need. When that’s the case, find good vitamins in the form of tablets, chews or other supplements as the next step.

Food for Wellness

Writen by Ramani Iyer

Right from the elementary school education, we are educated on balanced nutrition and what our body needs for wellness. Pathetically, this is the last and the least of priorities on our diet planning. Irregular food habits, consumption of junk food which appeal more to the taste buds than to wellness, and to top it all, fill up stomach with pegs of whiskey and mugs of beer, is the trend of the day. What a tragedy!

One of the nutrition survey reveals that the soil for the growth of vegetables is coming down rapidly due to continuous usage of the soil and by use of chemicals and pesticides. The water used for irrigation is contaminated and another survey reports that the vegetables grown in a particular area, with contaminated waste water, contain mercury which is dangerous to health and might lead to kidney failure. The fruits which are stored and sold in the shops are devoid of major portion of the nutrition. Yet, we do not take cognisance of these disturbing reports, but continue to dump all junk food which are good only to our taste buds.

What next? Obesity, retardation in metabolic functions, loss of energy, and finally the stage is set for the grand entry of Diabetes, the silent killer.

The damage is irrevocable now and still you are unaware of the impending health problems. Low intake of required vitamins, protein, minerals, fibre and essential food on one hand and excess intake of carbohydrates, salt on the other hand to spoil the show further. Once diabetes sets in, it opens up the gate for all major diseases to take control of your body and ruin it beyond repair. What an insult to the almighty God who gave you this beautiful body to support your soul in all good deeds!
