Blending for the Desired Effect through Aromatherapy Blends

Writen by Bryan Josling

Lavender has for long been known to have stress-relieving properties. But few know that lavender when mixed with lemon and clary sage gives a much more comfortable feeling. The mixing here is called blending. Creating an aromatherapy blend is like using a number of vegetables and spices to prepare that delicious curry. Do you need to be a renowned chef to create delicious curries? Not necessarily. Just have an idea of what you want and mix in proper proportions and you are ready to serve the dish.

Similar is the case with aromatherapy blends. The desire to experiment and knowledge of oils – this is all that one will need in order to create an aromatherapy blend. Within minutes you are ready with your aesthetically and therapeutically correct blend.

When using oils or absolutes for the purpose, do the homework before. Proper research on the properties of each oil used must be undertaken to assess if they are synergistic to each other. Certain oils work against the other oil used in the blend. This means that the blend is not producing the desired effect. Use oils which enhance each oil’s effect.

Always use pure essential oils in making an aromatherapy blend. Fragrant oils are available in the market. They serve only to add fragrance to your recipe. Also, because of the presence of artificial elements in the fragrant oils, the aromatherapy blend is susceptible to becoming adulterated.

Research on aromatherapy blends may demand time. Those who have found interest in blending essential oils become engrossed in the blending in the same way as a scientist loses sleep in his discoveries. And, thus they are ready to put in as much time in the blending as required.

Study well the aroma profiles of each oil. Take a blotting paper and sprinkle a drop of the essential oil on it. See and feel its effect. Note it down on a piece of paper so that you can refer to it in the future. Undertake a similar activity for numerous oils. In this manner, you will have a complete database ready with you.

Similarly, while blending note down the reactions that takes place in the properties of each oil. Any of the following three will happen. An oil will completely lose its property. A property will be enhanced. Alternatively, a completely new property will be discovered in the aromatherapy blend. A true blender is one who knows how to enhance or create the desired effect. This may take time. Sometimes, certain properties will become known all of a sudden; somewhat like French chemist Ren

Coping With Genital Herpes

Writen by Grace Palce

Ideally, you should not have any sexual contact once you have HSV infection. This would not benefit you, but it would help the rest of mankind.

Once you have been diagnosed as positive with genital herpes, it would be quite pointless to identify the source, since you may have had it for years already and the first outbreak only happened recently. What you needed to do is to take steps so that you may still live a relatively normal life. People with genital herpes do live normal lives.

And one of the first things to do is to have a capable health professional who is experienced in treating HSV infection. It is also important that you are able to communicate openly with your doctor. Don’t choose a doctor that you will feel uncomfortable with. HSV infection is a sensitive disease and can bring you several emotional problems. You do not need a doctor to add to your burden.

Another important thing to do is to learn about the disease. You must understand how it is transmitted so that you can avoid spreading it to other people and prevent complications. Specifically, avoid touching the infected area no matter how itchy or painful it is. And when you do, wash your hands immediately. Otherwise, you run the risk of infecting your lips, eyes and even your brain.

If you already have a partner, discuss the situation with him or her. Chances are your partner may also have genital herpes but the symptoms just don’t show. There will be emotional trials for both of you regarding your relationship, but you must stay mature above it all.

Together with your doctor, you may consider taking the acyclovir treatment. This can lessen the severity of the herpes blisters and can hasten the healing of the sores. You may also find out the periods in which you are most contagious. Some are most contagious at the time when the blisters begin to appear and others are most contagious either the week before or after the appearance of the blisters. You may also decide whether you will take the acyclovir when needed (as the blisters are about to appear) or will take this medication everyday (called suppressive therapy).

Most important of all, if you have genital herpes, you must tell your new sex partner about it, before you have any intimate contact. The decision to take the risk must be left to them.

A Safe Treatment of Hemorrhoids

Writen by Dennis Harris

An effective and safe way to treat the common problem of hemorrhoids is something we all are looking for. Medication that can be used to treat hemorrhoids may be a solution to consider. If you can discover what may be available, it will be easier to decide on the most effective way that you can get some relief from the symptoms you may be experiencing. The goal is to get the bleeding to stop, and swelling to go down on the blood vessels, thereby getting some relief from the irritation.

Some of the treatments available are specifically for the hemorrhoids that form in the anal and rectal areas internally. You can recognize this type of hemorrhoid by the bleeding that is present. More severe internal hemorrhoids can cause some of the tissue to come outside of the anal part of the body. Fortunately, there are a number of different treatments that are directly useful for relieving internal hemorrhoids. You can decide if you want to try various home remedies or find a medication to treat these types of hemorrhoids.

We’ll address three types of medicines used in the treatment of hemorrhoids. Astringents are a type of medicine that is beneficial in relieving internal hemorrhoids. Zinc Oxide, Hamamelis water and Calamine are all astringents that may be picked up over the counter at any drug store. Astringents help to decrease irritation and swelling by producing extra protein that positions itself under the hemorrhoid cell surfaces. Protection from re-infection is next and is accomplished by a thin layer of cells forming over the tissue. This will help prevent the irritation that happens when hemorrhoids itch or burn.

Protectants are another form of medicine that is used to treat internal hemorrhoids. Protectants help to create a protective coat over the irritated skin when they are applied to the area. Some of the medications in the protectant category are glycerin, kaolin, cocoa butter, hard fat, lanolin, white petrolatum, mineral oil, aluminum hydroxide gel, and topical starch. The inflammation of internal hemorrhoids should decrease as a result of applying one of these medications.

Vasoconstrictors are the third type of medicine that can be used. Ephedrine sulfate and phenylephrine hydrochloride are the two main medications in this category. They work by constricting the blood vessels and soon the dilated veins should return to their previous size. The itching and irritation should be relieved very quickly when using these medicines. Be sure to check and see if you have any conditions that can cause your body to react negatively before taking these medicines.

All of the medications discussed in this article have been approved for the treatment of hemorrhoids and specifically for ones that are internal. They should help if you are experiencing symptoms of discomfort, irritation or bleeding. Any possible side effects from these medications that may give you trouble should be researched before taking them. Research will also help you to decide on the most effective medicine to help your particular symptoms of internal hemorrhoids.

8 Important Facts About the Mediterranean Diet

Writen by Ray Darken

A diet regimen that is gaining in popularity in many parts of the world is based upon the dining practices of the people that populate the Mediterranean region. Many people have heard of the Mediterranean diet but are not particularly familiar with some of the specifics of the eating routine.

In order to assist you in becoming more familiar with the Mediterranean diet, a consideration of eight useful facts regarding the elements of this dining regimen can be most helpful to you. Of course, these are merely some basic talking points about this valuable dieting routine. Before you embark on any sort of diet plan, including the Mediterranean diet, you need to take the time to consult with your physician to make certain that a proposed regimen is appropriate to your medical status.

Eight General Facts About the Mediterranean Diet

The key elements of the Mediterranean diet are, fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, olive oil, fish, and wine in moderation. Because of this combination, the Mediterranean diet is one of the healthiest dieting regimens to be found anywhere on the planet.

Meat and animal products are consumed in very small amounts in the Mediterranean diet. Indeed, when meat is included within the diet scheme, it is poultry or fish in the vast majority of instances. Red meat is not a staple in the Mediterranean diet and is rarely eaten by adherents to this dieting routine. The people who actually populate the countries around the Mediterranean Sea are rarely seen eating red meats of any kind. In addition, dairy products are used only sparingly within the Mediterranean diet. For example, if milk is included in a meal or in the preparation of food, it is of the low fat or non-fat variety. Eggs are rarely included in Mediterranean meals. Indeed, a heavy egg eater is one who has four eggs a week.

With the moderate consumption of fish, the Mediterranean diet allows adherents a tremendous source of Omega-3 fatty acids. Research has demonstrated that a diet flush with Omega-3 fatty acids works to prevent heart disease, stroke and even some cancers.

Many uninformed people can be found making the statement: “The Mediterranean diet just isn’t for me — it is too high in fat.” In truth, the Mediterranean diet is high in certain types of fat. Upwards to thirty-five to forty percent of the calories taken in through this diet do come from fat. However, the Mediterranean diet is remarkably low in saturated fat. It is saturated fat that has negative consequences on a person’s health and wellbeing.

The diet relies heavily on olive oil. (This is the primary reason why the diet is higher in fat than one might expect.) Olive oil is proven to increase the level of HDL cholesterol (also known as “good cholesterol”).

The Mediterranean diet is extremely high in antioxidants and fiber, two elements that have been proven to be helpful in preventing heart disease and some types of cancer.

The dietary practices of the Mediterranean region trace their origins back to the days of the Roman Republic and the Roman Empire, beginning in about the Fourth Century BC.

The Mediterranean diet became of more international interest in modern times as early as 1945. A medical doctor named Ancel Keys was responsible for encouraging his own patients in the United States to turn to the Mediterranean diet scheme. His advocacy increased the awareness of the Mediterranean diet in other countries around the world as well.

Conclusion

Armed with these basic, elementary facts about the Mediterranean diet, you will be in a better position to determine if this diet regiment is appropriate for you and your lifestyle. As can be seen, the Mediterranean diet has been followed by people in many parts of the world beyond the Mediterranean Sea region for quite an extended period of time.

Hiatal Hernia: Most Common Form of Hernia

Writen by Groshan Fabiola

Many types of hernia are encountered at millions of people in the world, but the most common form, that affects the majority of the hernia patients is hiatal hernia. Other types are: inguinal hernia, umbilical hernia, and sports hernia. These types are less common then hiatal hernia.

Any type of hernia occurs when a part of an organ pokes through a tear that appears in the muscles near it. In the hiatal hernia’s case, the upper side of the stomach gets in the chest through an opening in the diaphragm called the hiatus. The diaphragm is the muscle that separates the thoracic cavity from the abdomen, and the hiatus is an orifice in the diaphragm through which the esophagus passes in order to reach the stomach.

When hiatal hernia appears, the upper stomach and the end of the esophagus slip up through the hiatus because it has become weakened. This is called a sliding hiatal hernia. Most of the hiatal hernias are sliding hiatal hernias, but a few people suffer from a different form, called paraesophageal hernia, which is slightly more dangerous because the stomach can get strangled. Some call it strangled hiatal hernia for this reason. In paraesophageal hernia, the upper stomach and the esophagus don’t slide through the hiatus together like in sliding hiatal hernia, but a little part of the stomach slips through it and can strangle the esophagus and shut its blood supply off.

The exact cause of hiatal hernia is not entirely known. It may happen after an accident where the chest or the abdomen of the patient is hit, or if the pressure inside the abdominal cavity is increased by repeated coughing or during pregnancy.

Hiatal hernia doesn’t cause any symptoms or trouble in the body, so in most cases people have it and they don’t even know about it, but they aren’t exposed to any risks. The only time when treatment is required is when strangulation occurs. In this case the patient needs surgery to put the stomach back in its normal position. Hiatal hernia surgery can be done with the help of the laparoscope, an instrument used in many types of surgeries, that enables the doctor to operate without making a large incision in the chest, but through a very small one.

So, most of the people that have hiatal hernia can easily live with it without experiencing any problems, but if you know that you have it and you start to feel pain in the abdomen often or maybe even vomit, you may be in the danger of a strangulation, so consult your doctor for an accurate diagnosis.

Bextra’s Safety Questioned

Writen by Amber Templeton

An increasing number of Americans are relieved to learn there are non-drug ways to ease pain now that safety questions have been raised about another well-known and widely used painkiller, Bextra.

Recent meetings of the FDA were preceded by a petition from a leading consumer group, Public Citizen, asking that the drug be taken off the market. Both the FDA and Public Citizen raised concerns about the safety of Bextra, one of the so-called Cox-2 inhibitors. The Cox-2 drugs Vioxx and Bextra were once viewed as “wonder drugs” for arthritis and painful menstrual cycles.

Bextra has moved into the spotlight while the maker of Vioxx is being investigated. Vioxx was one of the nation’s most popular ways to treat pain and arthritis and was taken by an estimated 20 million people before it was withdrawn from the market. That happened after studies linked it to a heightened risk of heart attack and stroke – information that may not have been fully understood when the drugs received FDA approval.

Researchers released information indicating that the chances for heart attack following prolonged use of Vioxx were four times greater than with older over-the-counter pain relievers. It has also been linked to angina and stroke. A University of Pennsylvania study released at a meeting of the American Cardiology Association indicated that those taking Bextra had a 2.19 times greater chance of heart attack, stroke, sudden death and Stevens Johnson Syndrome, a life threatening disorder in which blisters occur on the patient’s body.

The result is many people are now seeking alternative non-drug therapies. They are also investigating legal remedies.

Those seeking non-drug alternatives to relieve chronic pain should discuss their plans with a physician. Known alternative remedies include:

MSM (Methyl Sulfonyl Methane), a compound normally found in foods. It’s used to relieve the pain of osteoarthritis and help strengthen collagen in the joints.

Glucosamine, primarily used to treat osteoarthritis. Research indicates that glucosamine is as effective as low doses of non-steroidal anti-inflammatories such as ibuprofen. It appears to relieve pain and improve movement, slow the progression of the disease and protect joints from further damage.

Wobenzym, an enzyme combination and a top-selling supplement in Europe, now available in North America.

Bromelain, an anti-inflammatory and digestive aid used primarily in Japan, Hawaii and Taiwan.

Those who have suffered heart attacks and strokes while taking Bextra or Vioxx can explore legal remedies at www.painkillerinfo.com or by calling 800-320-5081.

Excessive Sweating & Natural Cures for Hyperhidrosis

Writen by Tony Guribal

Excessive sweating is seen in millions of people around the world. This disorder causes stress as many people in the sales field, medical and business circles rely on being cool and calm. The last thing any person wants is to have sweaty palms or a wet stain on their underarms.

The medical term for excessive sweating is hyperhidrosis. There are several causes of this condition such as obesity, menopause, psychiatric disorders, as well as with some endocrine disease treatments. Most people overcome this but can be triggered at any time especially when a person is nervous or aggravated. The excessive sweating often occurs from childhood and coninues throughout a person’s life to adulthood.

Several different types of hyperhidrosis exist. One type is Facial Hyperhidrosis which is visible when seeing a person has sweat on their forehead or brow. Usually the person is the center of attention or under some sort of scrutiny such as public speaking, court or television appearance. Another type of hyperhidrosis is called Palmar Hyperhidrosis. This is more commonly known as sweaty palms. This causes many people to feel uncomfortable when in social circles whether it be friends, family or work related. Offense might be taken to avoid shaking hands or having any contact with other people for fear of rejection or ridicule. Also a common hyperhidrosis issue is underarm sweating. This is embarassing and causes the person to dress differently and avoid raising their arms. The worst part is to make sure your anti persperant is working effectively to avoid embarrassment.

But there have been breakthroughs to help with this condition. No longer will you avoid events such as weddings, social mixers and other fun outings for fear of underarm sweat showing. There is a 100% natural process available by an author who suffered with underarm sweat issues for years. The author reveals his obsessive behavior to try to cover up the underarm issues by doing things like wearing multiple undershirts, different antipersperants, multiple applications of antipersperants during the day, elevating his arms away from his shirt, and even an electric current device to try and stop his underarm sweat. He decided to finally start living his life and found a way to fix his often times stained shirts. Nothing worked but his own three step cure. Stop being miserable and learn now how to have a life and get your life back without fear of underarm staining.

Green Tea: An Effective Weight Loss Solution

Writen by Patricia Zelkovsky

Did you know that Green Tea is one of the most effective weight loss supplements that you can consume to help you lose weight?

Well, it is. According to recent studies, when combined with sensible lifestyle changes green tea can help dieters lose weight, burn fat, increase metabolic rate and suppress their appetites.

Unlike black tea which is highly processed and fermented, green tea is made by slightly steaming the freshly gathered leaves, which prevents them from becoming fermented or changing color. After steaming, the leaves are dried by lightly pan frying them in a wok, baking them in an oven or heating them with hot air until they are crispy. The resulting beverage is a greenish-yellow tea with a slightly astringent flavor.

More and more often you’ll find extracts of green tea being included in a lot of popular weight loss products today. One of the main reasons for this is because of one of green tea’s chief ingredients. Polyphenols, which are responsible for the color of the leaves of some plants, are a group of substances found in green tea. These polyphenols benefit weight loss by helping the body to burn fat naturally by increasing body heat and energy expenditure.

Green tea also causes carbohydrates to be released slowly, preventing sharp increases in blood-insulin levels. This promotes the burning of fat.

Another of the main ingredients in green tea is antioxidants. Antioxidants are organic substances, like vitamins A, E and C which are thought to be effective in helping protect the body against the harmful effects of free radicals – which cause the destruction of living cells, cancer, stroke and heart disease. One of the most extraordinary characteristics about green tea is that studies have shown it is about 200 times more potent an antioxidant than Vitamin A, Vitamin C, E or curcumin in some instances. Additionally, just one cup of green tea has more antioxidant effect than a serving of strawberries, spinach or carrots.

Caffeine is another component in green tea which scientists think plays an important role in green tea’s ability to help people lose weight. Green tea contains less caffeine than coffee. There are approximately 30 to 60 mg. of caffeine in 8 ounces of tea, compared to more than 100 mg. in 8 ounces of coffee.

Combined with Polyphenol compounds, caffeine in green tea acts as a stimulant to the body to help promote fat loss. In a recent study, participants taking green tea extract and still following normal diet experienced a significant increase in their energy expenditure.

The researchers concluded that participants using green tea extract had increased fat oxidation beyond what could be attributed to the caffeine they consumed.

This indicates that green tea contains beneficial components that affect the body’s metabolism in such a way that favors weight loss. Additionally, scientists observed that participants in a study on green tea did not show any increase in heart rate, which suggests that green tea may be an excellent alternative to many stimulant-based diet aids.

If helping people to lose weight was not enough, green tea provides additional health benefits far and beyond weight loss, including:

Protects against Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s

Fights cavities and helps stop tooth decay and gum disease

Prevents osteoporosis

Protects against ovarian cancer, breast cancer, liver cancer, lung cancer, stomach cancer and prostate cancer

Lowers cholesterol

Helps the body to fight viruses

Controls high blood pressure

Normalizes healthy bacteria in the intestines

Helps prevent heart disease

Thus far, no harmful side effects have been found in drinking green tea or taking green tea extract capsules. This makes green tea one of the best health supplements available for weight loss and overall health.

3 keys to choosing an effective nutritional supplement

3 Keys To Choosing An Effective Nutritional Supplement

Writen by Adam J. Thompson

Vitamin shopper Bob is perusing the nutritional supplement aisle at his local health food store. The claims on the bottles jump off the shelf at him: “World’s most powerful formula!” … “10X Stronger” … “Most effective yet!” So many products, all claiming to be the best! Which is actually the best?

Bob needs to learn exactly what to look for to determine which product is really the best. These 3 keys will help you choose a supplement that will give you your money’s worth.

Key #1: Raw numbers
The first thing you can check (and probably the easiest) is to check the raw numbers on the product label. How much of the active ingredient is in the product? How many miligrams of a particular nutrient? If the information is not on the label, contact the manufacturer. They may have the data to send you.

Key #2: Are the numbers lying?
They say that numbers don’t lie. That isn’t true in this case. The raw numbers can actually be very deceptive. Here’s why: many nutrients are very fragile, & easily destroyed. You need to find out if the product is proccessed and handled in a manner that all the nutrients are still there when you swallow it. In other words, you want your supplement to contain all of the nutrients when you swallow it that the label says it did in the lab where it was tested.

It can be pretty tough to figure out whether a product meets this criteria or not. The best way to do this is to find out if the manufacturer has done studies to determine if the product is just as effective off the shelf as it was in the lab.

Key #3: Are the nutrients absorbable?
Once you have determined if the product you are considering buying still has all of it’s nutrients in it when you buy it, you need to find out if your body can absorb the nutrients that are in the products. There are two pretty simple ways to do this: 1) Find out if there is a scientific study on the absorbability of the product, 2) Find out if the nutrients in the product are still in their natural form. Just having the nutrients in a food base won’t work. The nutrients need to be in their original form.

If you use these three keys when choosing a nutritional supplement, I promise you that you’ll be able to better choose the product that’s truly the best.

How To Keep One’s Skin Beautiful

Writen by Anna Iv

Human body is very sensitive and vulnerable. It is and has always been an easy target for an arrow, a sword or a bullet. In all the times people tried to protect their bodies as well as possible: medieval knights had iron armor; nowadays policemen use more effective protection – flak jackets – to survive in the battle with evil.

It goes without saying that we should value these mankind inventions; at the same time, we must never forget about what nature supplied us with to resist the undesirable and dangerous influence of the environment. Skin is what I mean.

Though it cannot protect us from a sword or a bullet, it has always been a very effective means of defense against ultraviolet rays, heat, cold, viruses and bacteria, which constantly try to make our bodies their home for some time, and then to gradually destroy them.

Besides, skin is a multifunctional component of the human body. Thermoregulation helps us adjust to the temperature of the environment due to the widening or narrowing of blood vessels and the secretion of more or less liquids by skin’s glands. Metabolic function is realized during the gas exchange, water-salt metabolism, etc. After all, due to the skin’s sensation function we can feel the pleasure of touching.

I am pretty sure that knights took good care of their armor for it to remain strong and reliable as long as possible. We should also do our best to preserve skin “in the working order” and to make it good-looking as well.

So, to have healthy and beautiful skin it is desirable to:

  • avoid the sunlight, as its ultraviolet rays cause the most harmful changes in the skin structure, making it dry, wrinkled, thin and covered with age spots. They can also provoke skin cancer;
  • quit smoking, because nicotine is said to have the same influence on skin as sunlight;
  • clean and moisturize skin properly (scrubs, creams, ointments and lotions can be of great help in this case);
  • keep to a healthy diet with much fruit and vegetables to supply skin with all the necessary vitamins. Drinking much water helps improve its state as well;
  • avoid stress, because skin is like a mirror, reflecting everything that is going on in the human mind.

It is easy to take care of skin when we are young. Smooth and plump, it needs, perhaps, proper cleaning only (excluding the cases of skin diseases). Aging, on the other hand, emphasizes the flaws in our appearance, takes away the beauty. It all results in dry, thin and wrinkled skin. This is a point, when preserving our natural body-cover beautiful takes much effort and skill to succeed. In order to make this process easier and more pleasant, visit http://www.pillwatch.com/theme/skin-care.html. It is a place, where you can find the answers to many questions.
